To get your SMS gateway, send a text message to your email address. The from field in the email is your SMS gateway.

This is great, the only downside for me is our customer really don't like sharing their carrier information, if only they can see that this is a better way to communicate with us in a timely manner everyone would benefit from it...oh well I'll keep trying to convenience them...thanks Kevin for all of your great videos.

You can use free carrier lookup websites or if you are tech advanced you can use “Phoneinfoga” free OSINT tool to batch lookup.

@@pjohn1435 There are few YT tutorials that are pretty easy to follow that show you how to set it up and use it. It gives a lot more data than just carrier (location, social profiles, person name, etc), but I think theres options to disable this to make the search faster if all you need is carrier.

@@KevinStratvert, Great video from one MS Alumni to another. One issue you might want to pin is that some gateways, like Rogers here in Canada, require login to use the gateway. From your phone, no problem, you can send to an email and see the gateway but you can't reply or originate email to text numbers from Outlook because of the login requirements. People will be frustrated if they don't confirm that gateway is open. Rock on.

Thank you for this video and all of the other content you post. You are my "go to" when I have a question related to an MS product. A question from this video ... I tested this from my corporate Outlook account by sending a text to my boss. She received two copies of the same text. One looked great. It looked like a standard text. The other version is broken into sections. The messages starts with "1 of 8" followed by a portion of the text then, "2 of 8" and some text, and then "3 of 8", etc. until the end of the text. 1) Why did two versions go out? 2) Why was the second one broken into sections, and 3) How to eliminate the second version?

For T-Mobile all SMS messages get converted to MMS messages. If the recipient is actually an application, it may be a problem.

No, if you set the Outlook rule to forward an important email to your cell, the writer of the email will not see your cell number unless you respond to the email from the text. 🙂 Note: Your cell number will be in Outlook if you have concerns about your company IT Department having the number.

Kevin, I work for a large company. We have the ability to set out of office messages for email and voicemail, but many employees text me while I am on vacation! Is there a way to auto reply that I am out so I don’t feel the need to respond! It’s hard to disconnect when there are so many devices!

Send a text to your email and that’ll show you the sms gateway.

@@mgeechawaz5871 Open your text message app on your phone and make a new text message. Where you put in the phone number, put in your email address. It will then arrive in your email inbox showing your phone number @ whatever the gateway is. Hope that helps.

Years ago this would be useful bc email apps on mobile devices sucked. Nowadays, just configure the desired email account. Plus, who the heck knows who has what carrier? If a company doesn’t allow email accounts most likely care about your health outside of work. If you are that important to be available 24/7, there are easier ways.
