It's funny how I watched this review after I bought the BabyHawk. Great review Mr. Bardwell. I initially flew this copter with 2s, a week later I tried it with 3s 450mah. I was worried about the extra 20g in weight, but Oh man!! No way I'm turning back. The babyhawk feels like a 5inch machine with 3s and I get about 5mins of flight time. With 3s 750mah, it's a bit sluggish but I'm getting about 7mins of flight time. This is an awesome machine for some indoor practice and flying through tiny whoop gates.

On 3S it flies better but some people have burned out motors so I don't promote it. But yeah it flies way better on 3S for sure.

I've had this quad for about 2 weeks now. I manage to brake a prop guard and bend the two front props on a couple of crashes. Bent the props back and flew away no problems. super durable and quite fast.

Just got this up and running too. I used a FuriousFPV mini Rx to get telemetry to my Taranis, and works perfect. A little disappointed in 300mah flight time, but still learning anyway. I ended up buying a 4 pack of the Bias 2S 300mah batteries on Amazon (Atomik Rx I believe sells them), and they've been pretty good so far. Still waiting on my FPV goggles.

Great review! I reviewed this copter a few weeks ago, got my hands on it pretty early. I have flown about 50 packs through it now! After doing that, I can say it truly is a sturdy copter. I have managed to break the front left prop guard (kind of where you were flexing in the video), as well as the front left and back right prop. This is after smashing it into a bird feeder, fence, etc. One of the ESC wires broke from the motor, but it was very easy to re-solder it. The prop guard was easily fixed with some E6000 general purpose glue. Overall I've put it through the paces. This copter really translates well to a miniquad. I've been able to fly it easily in my backyard, which means much more stick time! I recommend a 2S 300mah Turnigy nanotech battery (35-70C) which works very well, and what Emax recommends on RCGroups. For anyone wanting to mount a FrSky XM+ Receiver, I've designed an antenna holder and posted it on Thingiverse. www.thingiverse.com/thing:2250873 This may be a better option than tucking it in the frame, as some have complained that range is limited when doing that. Also, the only place I can find parts in the US (at the time of writing this comment) are Team Legit's web site. Eventually you will break props, get a few extras. Might as well get a prop guard as well. My review here in case anyone wants to check it out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYiVo6KuaKZ5jNk Happy flying!!

I agree. I took mine outside for the first time, a few days ago. Impressive for it's size. Mine didn't include a RX. Added a SAT that I de-cased and stuck on back of the camera/vtx. Flashed 3.1.7. Running the 2S lipos from my micro Helis. Nano-tech 300mah 45-90C and even the stock 100S lipo (450mah 20C). Just purchased four 350mAh 2S 80/160C lipos to try.

Joshua, I am looking at the emax babyhawk as a fun time flyer, grab and go for times your not sure if your flying or not. But that babyhawk does not seem much faster than my 8.5mm brushed micro. I wish i had one! I have been trying to do some budget builds, but no matter what I do, I never end up with a useable quad. I am getting pretty frustrated. I NEVER get matching parts, and I even got a few defective items. I am really wishing that I just got a bind n fly package rather than have a pile of useless parts. I have spent the past 2 months at my desk instead of flying. I am definitely ready to give up. But I enjoy your videos. Keep it up!

Old video I know, but FWIW, I got a PNP version (used an FrSky XM reciever). All good except the camera overheats and shuts of in about 1-1.5 minutes of flying (less if not moving). Flew it LOS after the camera shuts down and find that it dumps a 400mah (Lumineer) battery in about 2 minutes. Got another camera, will put it in tomorrow and see if it works better. Several reviews have said much larger than a 400-450 mah battery is too big for it, but I'm going to have to try a 500 mah if the fly time doesn't get better. 3 packs for 5-6 minutes in the air isn't going to cut it..

I'm having a lot of difficulty. Took a long time to get the thing to arm. Had to tweak things a lot in Betaflight from Joshua's video there. No I can't really control it. Tried two different batteries: Eflite 2S 7.4V 400 mAh (30C). Small enough to be ok, and a Lecton Pro 7.4V 950 mAh (30C) which is long and bulky, definitely throws the balance off. Do I need a smaller battery and then work on the trim? FPV in my house EQUALS lots of crashing. It's sturdy though.

Joshua Bardwell I think my battery is the problem. Mine was feeling weak on a 2s 250mah I had laying around. After seeing your video I put a 600 mah i have and it was much improved. I think my little 250 is just too old. I did zip tie my fc down so it would stay in place though. That made a ton of difference stability wise and it flies a lot more like my 5 inchers now. You cannot use Dshot with the F3 Femto FC because of a DMA conflict. If you remap one of the motor outputs it can work. But officially it only supports Oneshot.

The linked version (in the video description) is PnP. This means you provide your own receiver. Any PPM or serial receiver you can fit onto the copter will work. The Taranis micro receivers like XM+ are ideal. I don't know about other types.

I'm curious, do you think this would be a good first quad for someone?
@JoshuaBardwell7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, actually, I do, now that you mention it. Relatively docile to fly, but still handles like a real copter so you'll learn good habits. And super crash resistant.

Sweet. I already have a 280 and a big AP quad, but I'm really wanting to get one of these micros because 90% of my free time is after dark (and in the winter months). But, I'm also always having new people who want to try flying, and I'm thinking something like this would be way more interesting (and safer) than my big quad

Could you help me out! I have a babyhawk and love it but the video range is extremely short for me, 60-80 feet and it is blacking out. I am running the VTX on 200mhz and on A8 and my Dom V3 are set to A8, same channel. The Antenna looks to be in good condition still but it is troublesome that I cant fly more than a few feet away in FPV... Any ideas?

I would replace the camera/vTX module. It sounds like it may be damaged.
@Salki10127 жыл бұрын
I'm going to contact Emax to see if they can provide any insight. and/or a replacement vtx/camera module. Hopefully I can get it up and working soon! On the plus side it does work perfectly within the 60-80 ft range so I can still fly around.

It's all 0 on roll threw aux 10 resiver is soldered in.
@JoshuaBardwell7 жыл бұрын
This is something I've been hearing more about but I don't know the cause. I think try reinstalling your configurator and/or update the firmware on your quad to at least 3.1.7.

Joshua Bardwell what flight controller do I pick
@biarlee25566 жыл бұрын
What would cause the baby hawk to pitch up when full throttle is given. I’m just thinking that there is so much vibration going on that the flight controller may just be getting a little bit out of whack or possibly a bad ESC

+#speedyFPV are you in autolevel mode?

Is this still the go ? It's been a year now ... I am looking for something I can fly closer to people with minimal risk of injury?
@JoshuaBardwell6 жыл бұрын
Depends what you are looking for. Babyhawk-R, Diatone GT-90 are both better fliers, but a litte too powerful maybe for "minimal risk" situations.

Yeah right thanks , I have the babyhawk r 3" ( just waiting for batteries) so guess will try that for now :)

I just unboxed mine. When I fly it, it barely has any punch. When i give it pitch or roll, it just drops. Mine looks nothing like this. The other videos i see have this thing screaming. Im using a tiny 2s 50c 400mah battery. So its definately not the battery. I built a micro with 1103 motors that can lift bigger batteries. Another thing that it does is when I land at a slight angle, the motors rev up and the thing flips out. Did i get a defective one? Or is this something that can be fixed?
@JoshuaBardwell6 жыл бұрын
How does it fly with the batteries that came with it?
@ninjasauce88556 жыл бұрын
Joshua Bardwell I didnt get any batteries with mine. I have ordered some, so I will wait. And wait. And wait until they arrive. I just watched someone flying with a 700mah battery and it was screaming. After looking into this, I am finding a lot of people are having this problem, but usually after flying it for a while. So dont waste your time on this, I was just hoping that maybe this was a common problem easily fixed.
