A good message behind this video mate, just have fun!! After all that's pretty much the unanimous reason we all started to fly. I'll probs never know why I started pinching either, I've always flown like that from the get go and had no influence to go that way.... it was just my thumbs are ruined from years of manual labour and sports so it felt better I guess. Entertaining stuff Nick, you gave me a good laugh after a tough day at work!!

I started with the tinyhawk 1 RTF. I quickly outgrew the radio and a stick broke when I dropped it. Fixed it with some hardware I had laying around and some epoxy. I keep the goggles around as a spare ride-along goggle. They are great for that. Not horrible to fly with either. Especially is your just starting out. I have had a few TH Freestyle 1’s. Also great quads, but I’ve broken them and many frames. I chock that up to just plain bad luck. Overall, I feel the Emax RTF’s are a great setup for beginners and a huge value. I approve! 👍

I got the RTF Tinyhawk 2 that came with the same controller and goggles so I can fly indoors and outdoors on a calm day. They are good for getting started with FPV, I'm coming from flying an Inspire 1 and a Mavic 2 pro for commercial work. I thumb fly those quads. I tried thumbing with the Tinyhawk 2 and couldn't do it. Now I pinch fly when I FPV and love it! I'm already looking to upgrade to the Freestyle II. This will be my next quad along with upgrading goggles (with a DVR) & controller. These goggles would make a great "ride along" set to share with family and friends. This hobby is addicting!

Well I started months ago with the tinyhawk 2 rtf kit with the same radio, and it's totally ok for cruising in angle mode with thumbs. But when I started acro mode with this radio I felt like I was a terrible pilot ... thumbing acro wasn't for me. Then I decided to buy another radio (betafpv literadio 2) and my skill level changed entierly when i start pinching ! I was able to not only cruise in acro mode inside and outside, but also do some "speed runs" in my yard, and do some tricks ( flip and rolls) on the 2nd fly with this radio... personally I do not recommend this rtf kit radio for beginners, just buy the betafpv literadio 2 instead. On the other hand the mask is not bad and does the job well, aside the lack of DVR. Thanks for this review , too bad it was not released few months earlier, that would have reassured and convinced me to change radio earlier.

Ok, so I'm new to flying period as I'm only a few months in. First drone was a zino pro camera drone. Recently got into fpv and this was the first one recommended to me. I use the kit as is and I'm trying to learn as much as I can about freestyle. I am a bit impatient and I'm really pushing myself to get better so I fly a couple times a week. I'm in L.A, CA so I'm limited on places to fly and haven't found anyone to learn from yet so I'm going thru all the bumps and bruises myself. Lol.... but I'm making progress and I recently ordered the radiomaster tx16s in hopes to switch over and get better. I hear you talk about rates and pid stuff but I'm unfamiliar with that right now. But I do want to learn so I'm watching KZbin videos all day as well. Lol
@NickBurnsFPV
@NickBurnsFPV 4 жыл бұрын
yes, this hobby has a steep learning curve. It can be frustrating and a barrier for some. Rates are how far the quad moves in a direction in proportion to the amount we move on the sticks/radio. PID is a huge topic. The high level is it is the numbers used to "tune" the quad, these affect how stable or well a quad flies.
@Infinite_Ouroboros
@Infinite_Ouroboros 4 жыл бұрын
I first started with a tiny whoop, learned how to controll and fly the quad then moved on to the tinyhawk freestyle 2. Soon ill be flying in HD with the IFlight H3 HD. Went with high end gear from the start because I know ill be sticking with the hobby. DJI goggles with analog mod for TBS fusion, TX16S radio with crossfire micro. I think this kit is great for gifting people that you want to introduce to the hobby but I would recommend those who are really wanting and have been researching into this hobby to save up for better gear that can be used for future quads. The TH freestyle 2 itself is a great quad, comes with all the accessories you would need, extra props, usb charger and a set of lipos, the stock tune is good and will fly properly straight out the box. If you are really worried about the exposed props, you can buy 2.5 inch prop guards for it too.

Good vid, thanks, Nick! I'm tempted to get just the quad because I already have a radio and goggles. But what about batteries and charging? It comes with two batteries but we all know that is hardly sufficient. Also, the charging solution is no solution at all, more of a charging problem. Some talk about efficient ways (like, in less than an hour) to charge twenty packs would be very helpful.
@NickBurnsFPV
@NickBurnsFPV 4 жыл бұрын
yea, no need for a kit when you have goggles and the radio. If you have a "standard" lipo charger I would look at the series charging board on RaceDayQuads here www.racedayquads.com/collections/battery-chargers-accessories/products/the-flying-sandal-1s-parallel-charging-board?aff=15

I bought the tinhawk freestyle thinking I could use the tx that came with the tinyhawk 2 but didn't know I had to be a software engineer to figure out how to set it up in beta flight. Why doesn't emax have there own app for products. I don't know what 90% of the wording is in betaflight. Tx did bind to freestyle and sticks are mapped right but can't move the arm switch,airmode,acro, because the transmitter doesn't have a on board screen.
@NickBurnsFPV
@NickBurnsFPV 4 жыл бұрын
we need to use betaflight to set the arming and other modes to the switches we desire. plug in the quad to usb and power with batteries. In betaflight check bound status on the receiver page and set modes based on aux from receiver page. While this isn't a detailed walk through there are many vidoes on youtube for betaflight/radio setup. One of the barriers in fpv is the learning curve, it can be very frustrating.

Got the rtf kit, as my first fpv/acro quad. The radio is OK, and I'm keeping it to use with future d8 quads until I get an mp module, but got a taranis x9 lite, as i didn't know other good cheap options and knew the betafpv radio didn't have ratcheting on the throttle which I would like to have. Goggles I found cut off the screen, even at the shortest focal length, and didn't offer the best reception. Have fatshark attitude v6's, and have taken one antenna from each ( the emax linear pole and the fatsharks linear?/ rhcp patch) so they are on even ground antenna wise, for a side by side vrx comparison. Can put up a link to that once I'm done that video, if you would like, or haven't done something similar. Then will compare those results to fatsharks with the menace pico patch and periscope antennas

@off-grideverything533

@@NickBurnsFPV yeah sorry I could've explained a little more, but was already long winded for a yt comment haha. I'm waiting on a replacement AIO FC for my tinyhawk and will be doing the tests once that's in. I will be comparing the fatsharks to the emax stock goggles, doing separate runs for the different antenna configurations. (Patch + pole, patch + patch, and pole + pole) ending with the menace antennas to compare the diversity receivers in the goggles as well as the stock antennas for both and aftermarket. Just going to use my dslr or phone to record the emax view, like you did. Also found the exposure on the emax goggles is way out. After using the fatsharks, found that I could still see in areas that were black in the emax goggles due to light changes
@off-grideverything533
@off-grideverything533 3 жыл бұрын
And the linear? Rhcp patch part was a little confusion on my part. They are rhcp patch antennas, but in the manual they have them labeled as 2xlinear patch antenna Rhcp patch antenna So I think they're labeling them as linear but just banking on the fact that polarized will still pick up linear, just be half of the signal range
@off-grideverything533
@off-grideverything533 3 жыл бұрын
Also not necessarily testing for range, but I have a property that has many different features like a forested pond area, a rocky hill down to a bay, some limestone outcrops, and an emptier area with a large steel shop, and a fair amount of cars. So seeing how the different configurations cope with different situations. I.e. showing beginners like myself how patches will give you superior range if you stay in front of yourself, and how a directional plus an omnidirectional can give you a cleaner signal all around (I think, still a beginner at this) But mostly comparing the internal receivers of the goggles, and how they deal with the different antenna configurations. I know comparing patches to poles isn't exactly a useful comparison. Haha

The whole video is basically my journey into fpv, my first quad, upgrades and how much those upgrades apply to the flying experience, but I thought the odd goggle testing with antenna swaps may be of interest, although I'm guessing you have more than enough equipment to try it out yourself, if you really wanted haha. @@NickBurnsFPV I've been flying DJI products for several years and got used to the excellent image quality. When I got into FPV I started with analogue and with my eyesight being poor, I struggled to learn because of it. When DJI came out with their version, I jumped to it just because I could see what I was doing. I admire you early adopters, you preserved and developed the hobby big time. I'm the opposite, I started out as a pincher on my Devo7E. I stayed a pincher for a while after I got my taranis X9D+. But then, I kinda fell into thumbs. Not sure exactly when it happened, I don't remember even noticing the transition. Thumbing just feels more natural to me now (especially with my X-Lite). I can still fly pinching pretty well if I try but, it feels all wrong. I've always had pretty good dexterity in my thumbs though. Oh, and I have always used a lanyard. I don't rely on it, I just like it for security, as I'm almost always standing. I may be accused of being over-cautious but, I don't like the idea of dropping my transmitter when I go to catch or launch a model 😉.
@NickBurnsFPV

@@NickBurnsFPV Indeed. That's why I have backup radios (in case it is something a lanyard can't save) and goggles, as I'm sure that you do. And, as for thumbing Vs. pinching, as you say in your video... do what feels right for you. That is why I (only slightly) take issue with what EMAX say in the Freestyle 2 manual... about one of their profiles being for thumbers and the other for pinchers. I really don't think one (thumbing or pinching) is inherently better than the other, it depends on the pilot.

I think these kits are nice for those people who just want to buy something and not have to think too much about it. But if you take a bit more time and research and buy individual stuff, you'll usually find a better experience. For me I started with the eachine 800d and brushed whoops. As soon as I got used to flying and exposure to what's out there, that stuff suddenly became old and I wanted more... So looking back I think I would have been better off buying better stuff at the start, but others experiences may be different. It's all fun though, and you can always sell/give away your old stuff to get another person into the hobby.

I use one of these! It's my first setup too. I bought the quad, eachine ev800d goggles, and a jumper t12pro, with gnb 520mah batteries. I like it a lot, however, I felt the pitch of the props was too much for me. I wanted a less steep pitch. I can't remember the brand, but I bought a 65mm bi-blade prop with less of a pitch, and now it's perfect, I fly it around my yard and as a park flyer.

@NickBurnsFPV
@NickBurnsFPV 4 жыл бұрын
We need to use a switch to activate acro. Acro is really a mode we don't "assign" we make sure our switch position is not in angle or horizon mode, thus a lack of mode, we only want air mode on in the switch position for acro.

Not a huge fan of the set. The quad is certainly capable for what it is but the controller has no feedback pressure in the sticks which is annoying and often leading to an over correction (of even the smallest movement) and a crash. Even when trimmed perfectly the sticks just limit so much. Wait a couple more months and get something somewhere around double the price with more features. You will get the experience you want and expect rather than disappointment and buyers remorse.

The th2 freestyle is a great quad. I honestly wouldn't recommend it as a 1st quad. My son and I started with a tinyhawk 2 and then upgraded to the freestyle. The goggles are the weakest part of the kit. Just know going in that they won't last long. The controller is ok. Its the next weakest link in this kit. If your new to flying ya wont know the difference anyway. The th2 freestyle is a super fun little ripper. In my experience it can take a beating from 2 inexperienced pilots. Its fast enough to really be alot of fun but not uncontrollable.

The goggles I still use for this THF2 drone.. but I've switched to DJI FPV .. now. Loving it.. but the analog goggles in kit work great.. just not tx. Can't speak enough positive about the TH2F but that EMAX controller is garbage and the goggles are so bad. Yeah you can function with them, but better to just buy the TH2F, the BetaFPV LiteRadio 2, and either the BetaFPV box goggles or spend just a few bucks more and get the EV800D's.
