Which would you say is a better starter kit? this one or the Tinyhawk 2 freestyle kit?
@JohnCuppi

This one is better for beginners. The tinyhawk 2 with the white ducted frame is build like a tank. The tinyhawk freestyle 2, while really nimble, just isn't.

The quality of the camera detail itself is the exact same. What may vary is the amount of static you get. In a wide open field it should be pretty much no different.

Been flying FPV for 6 yrs now and I have to say, from a beginners informational perspective, this video is really enjoyable to watch. Probably didn't need to get into the tuning, rates and exponents but it isn't to detailed that could lose the beginner so, I think its fine. Thanks for taking us for a complete walkthrough with this kit - really enjoyed it.

Do u need to use the beta flight program. In order to fly? Or is that just if u want to fine tune? Also! Can I fly without goggles I prefer not to use them.
@JohnCuppi
@JohnCuppi 3 жыл бұрын
@@LetsG0BrandonFJB No you do not need to use betaflight at all to use this kit. Everything is preconfigured. And if you want to change how it flies in terms of rates, you don't need the betaflight application either. :) It can be done with the on screen display. Yes you can fly without the goggles too, of course, it's fun to fly these line of sight in their own way. I would make sure you are in stability mode however before taking off. Flying acrobatic / air mode line of sight is really difficult.

@@JohnCuppi and this will also take 2s battery. But if I do that then I need to use the goggles to switch the pid profile to 2? After I set all my settings up with the goggles. Would I just turn off the goggles and fly. Would I need to use the goggles everytime I need I wanted to fly. Or would the pid settings be saved. I wanna know everything I can before I buy anything. I do have to say as a beginner fpv guy angle or stability mode is what kept me from quitting on day one. Without it I would have got rid of my kit. Was a nice step one before learning acro. (For me at least.)

@JohnCuppi
@JohnCuppi 2 жыл бұрын
It looks more like a VCR tape from the 90s. Your glasses may not fit if the frames are very large. My frames in this video about 5 and 1/2 inches wide and about 1 and 1/4 inches tall. And they were able to fit the goggles.
@JohnCuppi
@JohnCuppi 2 жыл бұрын
Alternatively, you can look at the eachine ev800dm goggles instead, in the worst case scenario you would just have to buy these and they would work fine with the tinyhawk. As they are larger, they will fit larger size frames as well, in case your goggles don't fit. Here is a link to my video about the EV800DM box goggles. They are way better than what comes with the tinyhawk II kit anyway because they can record your flight. kzbin.info/www/bejne/lYHMYWtnar-FZtE

I started FPV with one of those RTF kits and the first purchase I made after was a tx16s and it was the best investment I’ve made in FPV so far, that emax transmitter is next to useless. Throwing some omnis on those goggles makes them legitimately useful as well.
@JohnCuppi
@JohnCuppi 3 жыл бұрын
An omni does help those goggles out for sure. Everyone who stays and keeps flying fpv throws that transmitter in the trash and buys something else -- but the goggles can repurposed and kept as ride-alongs to give to a friend or random curious people! 👍

I’d like to try this kit next to compare. The LiteRadio is WAY better than the emax radio. A local friend of mine has it and let me use it briefly. At $199 the beta kit is about $40 USD more than the TH kit at the moment which seems about right for the significantly better radio. As you might know I had an extremely poor experience coming up on about a year ago with BetaFPV that left a really bad taste in my mouth. I’m trying a Meteor65 “second edition” and giving things a fresh start with them.

@JohnCuppi
@JohnCuppi 4 жыл бұрын
It does need to be flown on a calm day, you’re right! It feels light weight in your hand, but for this size and form factor it is actually quite heavy. The TH2 is probably one of the heaviest “whoops” I own, but that’s also why it’s so durable.

Do you think that geprc tinygo rtf is better?
@JohnCuppi
@JohnCuppi 3 жыл бұрын
Good question, The TinyGo RTF ( www.banggood.com/custlink/v3my8ufUgd ) is something I have wanted to try for a while, it looks better for 2 reasons. #1 you get a goggle with DVR, #2 the transmitter / controller is far better, not toy-grade like this. UNFORTUNATELY, it is more expensive -- by about $40-$50 more. And you won't be able to use the GEPRC transmitter to bind to other models, that radio protocol it comes with is totally incompatible. The great thing about the tinyhawk transmitter and tinyhawk itself is that when you finally do buy a nice new transmitter, it will be ready to bind. The tinyhawk's receiver is just a common frsky d8 setup. Not so with the GepRC. So you are getting a worse value from that standpoint. The GEPRC kit is pretty locked in, not in a good way but if we ONLY look at the ready to fly experience elements and don't consider price, it does beat the tinyhawk kit simply because of a MUCH better transmitter.

@JohnCuppi
@JohnCuppi 2 жыл бұрын
You can plug it into a computer over USB and connect it to an application called BetaFlight. Then go to the modes section and when you move the switches on the emax radio, it should show you that the modes change. Angle mode is the stability mode. Personally, I wouldn't bother to connect it to the computer. Look at the on screen display. If it doesn't say STAB in the upper left hand corner, it will NOT fly level/straight. If you see AIR mode, that is a definite sign that it is not in stability mode.

@JohnCuppi
@JohnCuppi 2 жыл бұрын
The prop that comes with a TinyHawk Freestyle 2 are the Emax Avan Rush 2.5." Unfortunately they only make this prop in red and black. I don't advise changing the prop to a different 2.5", because you will have to adjust the tune of the quad, it will not fly the same on the factory tune if you use anything except the stock prop type. The Avan Rush is a very good prop in my experience, one of smoothest and most efficient 2.5" prop I've used. If you truly want to change the prop, Gemfan Hurricane 2512 which I think should fit on the tinyhawk freestyle 2. I've used gemfan hurricane 2" props on my 85mm whoop drones, and more recently on the DarwinFPV tinyape freestyle that I just reviewed since that's what it came with, and they flew great. Gemfan makes high quality props, so there shouldn't be any disappointment there but be prepared to re-tune the quad.

@@RealAmayaKami Most bind and fly drones do not come with the ability to fly "inverted" (fly upside down using reversible motors) or in a "3D Mode" which is the other term for that. @@JohnCuppi sweet thank you! Hoping if I get this I can easily connect it all. Quick question! I flew my tinyhawk for the first time today! Was harder then simulator but funm i crashed a bit and lost one of my propellers. Spent 3 hours trying to find it in grass but couldn't. Any recommendations for tightening these?

Hi great video, how did you record what you see in the goggles? You said an external device can you explain that ? :)

I used my fatshark goggles to record, but you can get an external device like eachine rd200 watch www.banggood.com/Eachine-RD200-2-inch-5_8GHz-48CH-FPV-Wearable-Watch-DVR-RaceBand-Monitor-Receiver-OSD-Built-in-Battery-Support-AV-In-for-FPV-RC-Drone-Transmitter-Mount-p-1552374.html?p=G814221249561201502U&custlinkid=1465721 ... that allows others to see your flight, as well as has an on-board DVR. :)

@@JohnCuppi So I got the bundle, and used a lot the remote with the simulator (by going through the drone, as you can't use the remote directly on the PC) and I guess it is not supposed to be used so intensively as the throttle is just buggy now and goes up and down even if i remain steady on it, it's like shaking it. I don't even know if I'll go and bother contact banggood about it or just let it go. I ordered a new remote anyway a good one (cost as much as the whole bundle so :D TX16S from radiomaster) but yeah like you said controller is the real problem of the bundle.

@JohnCuppi 3 жыл бұрын
@@MrFormenis Yes, unfortunately the throttle just wore out. I’d contact them and see what they can do anyway, since you only just bought it. Then put the funds toward the betafpv literadio or maybe the jumper t-lite if you can. Both of which have real gimbals.

Anyone knows if this is better than the betafpv rtf advanced kit 2?
@JohnCuppi

The advanced kit has a much better controller. And now that these are mostly the same price I would be inclined to recommend that one over this. Emax has a lot better customer support, though, if that matters.

That was a good, helpful and fun review and useful advice. Thankyou Sir. 👍 I'm impressed by how responsive you've been in the comments also. And patient.... it must get abit frustrating with all the tedious or repetitive or uninformed questions from us noobs? And/or from some seemingly very indecisive (possible) first-time buyers haha? I hope you're getting paid or compensated well for your efforts as I'm sure you help to convince people and move these things. (Much as I dissaprove of doing business with or funding the CCP, where possible.) Or, come to think of it, maybe not directly from the manufacturers or retailers (thus usually CCP) as for one that might affect the integrity of reviews and create biases, or encourage a bunch of people to jump into it just for the money. Maybe from viewers that yoyve helped, through Patreon, or from YT or whatever. Idk I haven't thought it through that much and its not the point haha... I'm just trying to say i appreciate the efforts and hope it's worth your while. Am convinced to give this one a go though, and if you (or anyone) could help with a couple questions I'd appreciate it? 1: If I order the freestyle 2 drone along with this tinyhawk2 fpv rtf kit can I use the gear from this to fly the freestyle straight away also? 2:Is there a better radio you'd reccomend that i could order to (easily) replace the crappy controller from this kit? And could easily setup to fly these (2) drones with this kit gear, and with least the next few drones I'll order too? (And would work on simulator?) If that makes sense? I used to fly abit years ago and really just getting these to get some quick gear thay i can use now. (and thats easily available locally where i currently am, Australia...one of only a few such rtf kits available local now cause of messed up new fpv drone laws. ) Until I order and recieve some better equipment and drones from overseas, which take ages to come now. Anyway apologies for the long rant haha and i appreciate any help. I used to enjoy flying these casually a few years ago and am keen to try again...and though its nice to see the many advancements in the tech, it's sad and frustrating to see the government/s going after the hobby too.

Hi Lucky Man, thanks for the extremely thoughtful comment! My day job is somewhat a jack of all trades in Information Technology; one of the elements is customer support. So, that may be why I have learned the patience for repetitive questions, or ones answered in the video! 🙂 But I also honestly enjoy helping people in the hobby too and making these videos is part of it. I am not on Emax's payroll for any of this. The only thing I receive any benefits from are affiliate link purchases and youtube ads. I do disclose that in the description as well that they are affiliate links. In this instance, I bought this particular product with my own money though because I just wanted the tinyhawk II and then figured it was a fun opportunity to review the kit. Hey, I am not sure this will make you feel any better, but Emax is not a chinese-only company. Yes, their main company is obviously chinese and everything is made over there, but it employs people in the US and other countries to fly their products and test them, work in marketing, and customer support and troubleshooting. Whenever I have sent in a ticket to Emax USA for help and support I always converse with someone fluent in English AND technically competent for any products purchased from them. I've shipped in for warranty and it's a state side office. Emax products aren't perfect, because at the end of the day they are still made cheaply in China, but my own personal experience with the US support has been stellar. I'm unsure if that's because they know I'm on KZbin or not but I don't flaunt it whenever I've asked for help either. 1: If I order the freestyle 2 drone along with this tinyhawk2 fpv rtf kit can I use the gear from this to fly the freestyle straight away also? No, not "straight away" per say. It will not be bound or configured out of the box if you buy a TH freestyle and then try to fly it. There is indeed a way to bind the emax radio to the freestyle and then set up all the switches in betaflight, and it is not that hard, but it has a small learning curve to setup. The hardware itself IS compatible, however. 2: Is there a better radio you'd recommend that i could order to (easily) replace the crappy controller from this kit? And could easily setup to fly these (2) drones with this kit gear, and with least the next few drones I'll order too? Yeah--there are two radios I recommend; the Jumper T-Lite if you want a budget option, and the RadioMaster TX16S. If you can afford it, get the best radio you can buy, because you'll probably have the radio for a long time. Both are simulator compatible too and also compatible with the TinyHawk II and Freestyle II, but you will need to learn how to program the radio and then configure the models. This is true for basically every move past the tinyhawk kit where everything is just all set up for you out of the box. I hope this helps, agree that it's sad and frustrating to see the government/s going after the hobby. I think the micro category of drones is the safest option and least likely to cause a problem, so hopefully they just leave these alone.

Maybe but I think they were honestly just the cheapest option. That tx is very, very cheap. Tinyhawk 2 retail with a small case is $110. I see places sell this for $160 so that left a grand total of $50 to squeeze in goggles and a controller. My favorite budget goggles run $80 and a budget tx would have run $40-$80 making the package $200 to $250. 🤷🏻‍♂️ now that’s too high for some to bite. hope we see better setups in the future.
