Starmer was playing for time. The more he can dance us through the daisies and reminisce about the past, the quicker the caller's time will be up. He can take a breath, wipe his brow and then rinse and repeat. For far too long this man has been allowed to get away with one-liners, such as "99.9% of women don't have a penis" and voicing his agreement with Blair that "women have a vagina and men have a penis". These are lawyers' methods of double-speak and failing to tell us about the small print. It's not good enough. These soundbites need to stop. Starmer must be honest and tell women what he has in mind in terms of their rights. He must tell husbands and fathers what he intends to do about the rights and safeguarding of their wives, daughters, sisters and other female relatives. He must tell both parents what he intends to put on the school curriculum, and what his intentions are with regard to conversion therapy - which, in the case of children, risks criminalising their parents.

It hasn't escaped my notice that, when the question arises of which facility a transwoman should use, the response is often that it should be the ladies because of the possible harrassment a transwoman would face if they used the mens' changing rooms/toilets. Women are the ones who must give up their right to privacy and a safe space to shield a transwoman from harm. Aside from the imposition on women - which reminded me a little of the curfew the police placed on women when the Ripper was at large, in that it is women who must make the sacrifice - the assumption about men is awful - as if the majority are anything from intimidatory to violent, which is an insult. Yes, there are men who might intimidate or harm a transwoman in their space, but women also face this risk from predators posing as trans-identified individuals. The answer is not a wholly negative assumption about men, an imposition and a threat to women or a compromise - it's a third space, many of which already exist in the form of disabled loos.

I agree with the group of nurses who are embarrassed to undress in front of a man who says he is a woman. But I wish they showed the same consideration for patients who have to undress fully with no knickers behind a pathetic thin paper towel curtain with gaps for other patients and their husbands to look through and watch. Plus when you are having intimate care the numerous times a nurse whips the curtain open to speak to the nurses dealing with you and then goes out and leaves the blessed curtains open! I’m sure these nurses don’t strip to complete nudity

Nana l was born female with XX chromosomes, after giving birth to three children and having “female” problems it was decided that for my health and welfare a hysterectomy would be best. Now l understood the operation was to remove my uterus, ovaries etc. This operation includes the cervix which is the lower part of the uterus. Now in every trans operation l have researched there has never been a cervix included and male anatomy no matter how it’s reconstructed cannot have a cervix, that is unless that male was born a hermaphrodite or female.
