TMI but I just had a pap smear by a female practitioner and she was so nurturing I felt so comfortable, compared to my former OBGYN who didn’t say a word the entire time 😥 it makes a world of a difference having an empathetic, kind OBGYN and I’m sure you’d be the perfect example Rachel! :)

I’m the last clip where you were describing what you do in a Pap smear reminded me of the doctor that did my first pap smear. I went a few months ago to get it done the first time and I let her know it was my first time. She did everything you were describing. She was sweet, cautious and so careful. She would describe everything she was doing as she was doing it and it made me feel a lot more comfortable and it wasn’t a bad experience. So I can just imagine how great of an experience you made it for your patient ❤️

I'm not even in the medical field but got excited when you said you used Davinci. And hello shortness of breath club. I'm pretty sure mine is because I've repeatedly had pleurisy. The why is a mystery because the last time I went to the doctor for it after ending up in the ER for it (the pain was so sudden and strong and I didn't know what it was) the doctor just said, "oh it will go away on its own" and didn't even care to try to figure out the why. Sometimes I'm out of breath just standing up and talking 😐 I see medical students like you and I have hope that more doctors will actually listen to a patient's concerns and not be dismissive.

@HolisticCNM2 жыл бұрын
Hi Alejandra! I’m a Certified Nurse-Midwife! Midwifery is an incredible career and like OBGYN we provide prenatal care/labor/delivery/postpartum and GYN/well woman care/family planning. We’re independent providers in most states (meaning we can deliver babies/provide care independently in the hospital, birth center, or home) but also consult and collaborate w our OBGYN colleagues, as appropriate. I think the biggest things to consider is whether you’re interested in primarily healthy women/supporting normal birth as a midwife. Or if you’re also interested in complex cases, managing complications and, of course, doing surgery, as an OBGYN. Midwifery and obstetrics compliment each other and both are incredibly meaningful work. ☺️ Feel free to PM me w questions!

Topics: IUD insertions, different types of cysts on ovaries. For me I go in for yearly check ups to get checked because I had a positive HPV pap. Anyways, I went to the ED in October for severe side pain. It ended up being kidney stones, when they did the CT scan, they also seen a huge cyst on left ovary. Which ended up being a dermoid cyst. I scheduled a surgery to get it removed. During surgery when they got to see it, there was no more ovarian tissue. They had to removed by left ovary plus a part of the Fallopian tube. I’m just a little frustrated because this was not caught during my check up, and a pelvic exam was done at the time. A pelvic exam was 4 months before the CT. The cyst ended up being 9cm by 10cm

Step by step communication during this embarrassing exam can put the patient completely at ease. Ur doin it right. I wish more people spoke up instead of staying silent. It would be nice to lose the stigma of a necessary exam.
