Dr. Rachel Southard, I’ve been a nurse for 7+ years, I still have nightmares about being in school becoming a nurse, it’s such an information overload and being a physician especially OBGYN resident. I just can’t imagine the stresses daily, physical, and mental challenges you face. I’m always so proud of you and when I see your videos . I totally get the imposter syndrome, I still have to pinch myself some days to remind myself that I actually a Nurse and I’m proud of myself, but not only myself I’m proud of you. I love you Dr. Rachel Southard, you motivate me to one day proceed with the next step and getting into medicine, please don’t ever stop making content. One of the original day 1 followers. -Clint P, Indigenous Nurse from Southern Alberta ❤️🫶🏽❤️🫶🏽❤️🫶🏽

Yes you have been through Hell and still are.’ I just keep thinking that yes you could quit, nobody would blame you. We would understand. However The OB/GYN PATIENT would really lose your care. Patients need doctors like you. Caring and with a heart. You aren’t money focused. and you get excited about your😊work. Underneath the exhaustion and frustration that are darn near killing you…… you love your job. Hang in there even when you really want to quit . If you don’t finish yur future patients are never going to have a doctor like you. Just finish then pick and chose how much you want to work and where. Everything will be open for you. Just finish if you don’t you will be miserable because you. Will be so hard on yourself. Would hate to see that. I am not your patient but would highly recommend you to any of my loved ones. Blessings and prayers. Delora

Thank you for expressing your gratitude for people who donate their bodies to science. In high-school anatomy, we got to take a tour of GCU and part of the tour included the lab and being shown a cadaver. The woman had passed from ovarian cancer and we were able to view the tumor and learn more about the inner workings of the human body because of her. She still had her fingernails painted red and that made it even more personal. Bless her soul and anyone who helps advance science and medicine in this way. Much respect ❤

I’m interested in OBGYN but on rotation I still feel like patients are uncomfortable during a PAP. Can you role play or walk us through what you say to patients or any tips you have about how to make the speculum/processmore comfortable?

The eye twitching thing is worrying me for you… I develop ticks at one point in my life when I was so super stressed and I didn’t know that was why because I was really young in high school.. but it’s because I was overly stressed and needed a break and I wish looking back. My parents realized it and took me out of school until I got better. I needed a mental health break. Today I no longer have twitches I give myself the brakes I need and I’m on medication for my mental health. Please be careful and take care of yourself.

Thank you so much for your message. I am a mom of 2 and my life is on hold right now because of me having a brand new baby this year. My dream is to become a OR nurse and feels like million years away to get to that goal. Sometimes i do not feel good enough or pretty enough to achieve it. But i know i can. I thank you so much for making your videos. I have been watching you since you were in medical school didactic year. I envy you and the warmth you give this platform for future medical field people is amazing. Please do not stop doing it for us!

Dr. Rachel...I love your rawness and honesty in your vlogs. I am not a doctor, but I resonate with " Imposter syndrome" as well. I think when you are hard on yourself and have high standards, sometimes its easy to forget that everything is temporary. Just yesterday I was watching your medical school vlogs and now you're a second year resident! Way to go!

Hello Rachel, I've been following you since you started your residency, and I share the same specialty as you, but I'm in Mexico. I enjoy watching your videos because I can deeply relate to the exhaustion and, at the same time, the effort you put into staying strong. I admire you and truly appreciate the time you take to share your words, which, of course, are very helpful because they make me feel accompanied. Sending you a big hug.

What is an appropriate goal time for a section?
@RachelSouthard6 күн бұрын
That’s a great question. It really varies. Every c section will be different. I think the one immediately after that one that I did took almost 1.5hrs. Every body is different, and every case is very different.
@michelegeiger5206 күн бұрын
@@RachelSouthardI should have been clearer, if you are pleased with 27 minutes, for I assume an uncomplicated, straight forward section, what would be typical for a seasoned OB/GYN? How much better do you hope to get?
@RachelSouthard6 күн бұрын
I also do not know that answer tbh. I’ve never asked!

I just watched one of your videos about when you were preparing for the mcat and now I'm watching you in your second year of residency. You grew up so fast lol! I wanted to ask you, do you ever miss the times when you were just starting your medical career journey? Do you wish that you would have savored your life more when you were "less" stressed and busy?

Your words and advice are spot on. I recall when I started a new position 3 years ago and felt like an idiot. Then one day I realized I was settled and felt I knew what I was doing. What a great feeling that was! You are doing great, Rachel. Hang in there. I am leaning in for that big hug. ❤

Thank you so much for that message, Rachel! 💕 I have been a nurse for two years and just became a new CVICU nurse (been off orientation for 4 months now) and it is been super tough, totally experiencing imposter syndrome. I'm just trying to take a deep breath, reflect and recover. I made two mistakes that weren't severe but were not ok either, and it's been haunting me. I'm also very much burnout and I think this is linked to my mistakes. Just a hard moment for me but I will get through it. ✨
