there is 1000. 0001 - 1000 in a four digit lock. They had the 4 numbers needed already so it was 24 combinations. BUT they got it on the second tryy coz likely they were placed in order, so you really only had to guess the starting number and whether to read it left to right or right to left, give a combination of 8.
