People are always going to be harsh. But as an artist of different varieties, people telling me something I'm doing sucks helps me 10x more than everyone pretending everything I did is perfect. Obviously there's no reason to be dicks about it but constructive criticism should always be welcomed in this kind of thing. Because then she can look at her work objectively and be even better at what she does. For this particular cover her biggest issue was timing.

Having been a staunch fan of both the DP series and the Ember character with her song, I'll still stand by it. We shouldn't associate the actions of one mentally deranged individual with that of a song that has no malevolent intent behind it. It was a song written by a man who created a kids show, sung by a talented singer. The guy who shot three of his coworkers was nothing more than an obsessed fan who clearly already had some mental health problems. I've been a HUGE fan of Ember myself and I've not once ever blurred the line between reality and fiction and I not ONCE have ever had thoughts about doing bad things to people because of it. We shouldn't let the actions of one mentally ill bastard who decided to justify his actions due to his obsessions ruin a song and character that was made with pure, fun & artistic intentions by her creator (Hartman). You've done an amazing cover Kane, I love it. I understand why some people might be a little ruffled but again, we shouldn't associate a song with 0 correlation other than being an obsession by a mentally sick young man. It'd be like if we all stopped listening to Bob Marly (or whatever other RL artist that thousands love) simply because a crazed fan shot up a place to be with him. Just an example, but my point stands.

Addison Bortion Thank you. This means a lot especially since this is what I was feeling at the time. For context, I was in a toxic environment at the time with next to no social support. I made this just because I wanted to make something and I liked the original song. A classmate did the composition differently on purpose which is gorgeous though I originally asked for a version like the original. My roommate and I filmed this in an hour before I had to go to work. I had no time or resources to really make something good, had no experience as a sound editor but was still very happy that something got made at all. Things have improved dramatically (including my understanding of film) since then. Thank you for your kind words. It’s amazing to see that people still have such strong reactions to this even if most think it sucks.

The rough part about the original content in general is that it very much sounds like the ghost singing about her own death, likely at the hands of someone who claimed to love them. Its a dark idea in a kid's show that maybe wasn't meant to be delved that deeply into. But this song in its original or altered forms should stand as a memorial to the people who have lost their lives because of some other person who took obsession too far. Not all upbeat poppy songs have happy messages once you actually read the lyrics.

Alex Lopez Hey, OP here! Your fear is understandable. Hopefully this comment helps clear that up. I learned about the Randy Stair shooting recently, within the last few months. This video was made 2 years before that happened, posted over a year before the shooting. Had the shooting happened and I knew about it, this most definitely would not have been made, let alone posted. I was in a horrible place with no emotional support when I made it, but have since gotten much better and happier. I talk about that a little bit in a much more recent KZbin video on this channel called “Stupid Things - About That Ember Video.” I don’t wish harm on anyone and will not go crazy.
