I've just has a new cassette fitted after 7,000km at the same time as my 4th chain. Chains were changed when they got to the 75 mark. Regular cleaning and lubing, backing off on the power when changing gear and using the lowest level of assistance for the conditions.

on my 3rd chain in 2000km. Still using original cassette and chain ring.

chain 2000km cassette 8000 km chain ring 8000 km . If I change the chain checking it by checker regularly when will the cassette wear out and be replaced?
@PaulMoody2 жыл бұрын
My 2021 Turbo Levo is at 5500km and my original cassette/chainring show almost no wear (square teeth still square, etc). I’ve been replacing the chain often, with first change at 1000 and increasing use by 150km each successive chain, up to 1500km (just installed 4th chain which will be replaced after 1500km of use). I also deep clean after every 75km or less. I don’t ride in the wet (Vermont trails close when wet) and use muc-off’s ebike dry lube. Another thing I do is to make sure I’m changing gears to spread wear across as many gears as possible (vs. using power to avoid shifting) requires slowing down to use a lower gear, especially on tarmac commutes to the trails (fewer teeth on high gears wear even faster).

I find cleaning chain with a rag each ride then lube and wipe again to spread nicely - works wonders

A huge front chain ring would be good, as the small cogs in the read wear pretty fast.

After rinsing the chain with water, I use alcohol in the chain cleaner to evaporate the water faster as just wiping it off doesn't get the water that's inside the links.

Please everyone, watch the zero friction cycling videos for the best info on drivetrain wear.

Good video. That's what I do. Glad you mentioned servicing the freehub body. Have had to replace the freehub/non-driveside bearings in my rear axle assembly.

Where is the linkglide though? Can't find it anywhere

Have you run the chain the wrong way through the chain cleaner?
@astott2882 жыл бұрын
Agree, I normally remove my wheel and use the chain cleaner with the handle on the inside of the frame, definitely looks the wrong way round!

I have an unrelated question: I am a smaller built guy, I have been on the market for a GOOD quality Ebike and all I really can find that would work is the 27.5. Why doesn't top brands make some in smaller divisions like at least a 26er? It's the right size for me and with it I can tackle about anything the larger bikes do, however brands like Trek and Specialized don't make any Ebike 26ers.
@AmvC Жыл бұрын
i have a friend and she is doing fine at 164cm with Cube's size Small (which results in 27,5" instead of 29er) and afaik they even have an XS Variant. Maybe you shouldn't worry about the semantics and just go try out some bikes at your bike shop and/or rent one if there's renting available near you. After all, the british/american outer-tyre/tire-diameter 27,5" are actually a European 650b which is a 26" wheel size.
@AmvC Жыл бұрын
ps. in Germany, we measure 584mm for 26"/27,5" and 622mm for 28"/29" which are the ridge-to-ridge diameters of the wheel, leaving the height of the tire/tyre out of the nomenclature.

I thought those MucOff chain cleaners worked better when back-pedalling?
@AmvC Жыл бұрын
i tend to just leave them on while riding :)

WD-40 and a rag every ride is all you need.

Stay off muddy trails - bad for the trails and bad for the drivetrain. Have a tiny bit of creativity and do some other hobby those days.
