A good man isn't one who is unaware of his darker side but one who knows his darker side reaches the depths of hell and still chooses to have it in control and stay virtuous.

lean. Yes. And in my experience, I find that sometimes you need your own demons to keep other people’s demons in check, so it’s wise to know who and what they are. Edit: By “demon”, I mean “shadow”. Pretty sure you know what I mean, but some people get freaked out when I write like that, so I’m just clarifying to avoid a Holy War. Serenity, now!

This was a major discovery in my life. It has been beaten into me that I should repress and "rise above my demons." The "evil" part of me should be ignored, but the more I resisted, the more I became what I despised. It wasn't until I discovered Carl Jung's concept of the shadow was I able to become actually whole and grow as a person. Now I've come to accept my shadow and that it's darkest thoughts are a part of me. HOWEVER, that does not mean that those thoughts dominate my way of thinking, there is good and bad in everyone. I believe we have been gifted the choice to decide which thought we give our focus everyday. Always remember you have faults; but you decide if you'll let your shortcomings define you or learn from them everyday.

I used to oppress my darkside for long time but when that character popped out during high conflict situations, I started noticing that and since then I embraced that darkness and used it for my benefits and my family benefits also. Today I have the proper knowledge of when to calm down my darkness and when to let it out. No one is all bad nor all good, but respect the people who do bad things for the good reasons.

I've been doing Shadow work lately, it has so far been remarkably effective. It is without a doubt a slow process though, and in some sense painful. I see a lot of people in society today that could be considered Shadow possessed, the refusal to accept the dark side is a refusal to accept our entire being. Humanist get it wrong when they claim we are inherently good; we are not inherently good, but we are inherently flawed.

How do you do this "shadow work" in practical terms?
@mord0
@mord0 5 жыл бұрын
condor de los andes “shadow work” is a fancy term for an objective reflection on our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Reflecting on and accepting or “harnessing” our somewhat undesirable traits. This psychological reflection is highly rewarding as it allows us to integrate fragments of our personality. In other words, working on our shadow allows us to become more whole, a process Jung referred to as individuation.

I ain’t not no humanist, but I would argue that “good” is inherently within people, inherited even, and implicate. That’s different from saying that folk are basically good. It means that people have basic goodness inside them. I see that everywhere, my whole life, across the world, with pathological exceptions. It is our moral code and conscience. A gut based instinct ingrained at the genetic level as well as learned. A nurtured nature. And of course it is flawed :)

Embracing darkness and understanding it is one of the greatest experiences of my life. I now understand that darkness isn't something to be feared but embraced and loved. Humans have constructed the belief that darkness is evil, the same as a gazelle may perceive a lion as being evil for consuming other gazelle but from our elevated point of view a lion is not evil, it is simply being a lion. Darkness is the same as the lion when perceiving it from a elevated point of view, it isn't evil at all, it is simply darkness which is a pure entity. Humans (which are beings of light ) have nothing to fear from darkness as once you understand what we are then you also understand that we are equal to or slightly more powerful then the being of darkness. Humans have the power and those who understand that will no longer fear darkness but love it as an equal.

This is actually a concept I used to help myself a few years back. I didn’t know that this was a process or that other people had even thought about it. I had intrusive thoughts (still do to a much lesser extent) at a very young age. I believe I was 14 at the time that I decided to figure out what was wrong. After a lot of introspection, I realized that these intrusive thoughts that dominated my mind were simply repressed desires. I had demonized and alienated these feelings to such extent that they no longer felt my own. It was upon acceptance that those thoughts, wants, and desires were all mine that I finally began to heal. I’m 17 now and much better off in that regard. I wonder what 14 year old me would’ve thought if he had heard of Carl Jung. It’s still interesting to see that I came to the same conclusion as him. And also that it worked.

This is a tricky one. As I start to see the energy of my body, thoughts, emotions, memories- they start to become more raw and neutral when they are not stuck. As energy, any given thought, impulse, feeling, are in a way neither good nor bad. When we have freed up any stuck points, then we find we have a great deal of control over this energy- I can direct it, I can store it, I can use it to heal myself or others, or just let it go. Each has a corresponding set of techniques, it is not as if we sit on a huge battery and galvanically act out some random evil compulsion. The first stage is a Buddhist technique of meditation- you observe your thought then label it. "Oh, I'm having an x thought, a y thought..." Then you just let it go. The most important thing is to find a good teacher who has gotten into this work, which is meditative, mental and physical to do. Good practice to all, may we realize our way.

The Ying and the Yang, Ice and Fire, good and bad. The light cannot be seen without the darkness, and even the smallest light , looks as bright as the sun enveloped in deep darkness... I don’t know if this would apply to everyone. My own integration was expedited by a serious breakdown but, no matter how I tried, I could not forge a malleable alloy within. Just a lumpy, dented, imperfect mass much like myself. The two week crisis left me exhausted, heart hammering and unable to speak - all I could do was keep trying. I never imagined that the key would be laughter. But of course it was. Transmuted that lead to gold in a curious alchemy which sublimed to vapour and filled the vessel. I now know the guardian angel and a personal demon’s got my back - you am I. “The comedy within tragedy is that we think we have any control at all” - Nava

I'm always trying to be open to new ways of handling one's shadow. What's yours? Mine is below: I actively take responsibility for my thoughts and actions when reflecting upon evil deeds ive done in recent history. If it's particularly bad....i'll write it in my journal and break down the 'why' behind that deed or thought. After that, I write down a number of options to figure out a way to prevent it from repeating or integrate it into my life more gracefully. It consumes a lot of time (and that's what I need help fixing), but the insight I gain is priceless.

“One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious.” Jung Therefore, we must see in ourselves, all that we refuse to see, everything we deny. We need to understand our darkness. "know thyself" But how can one see what he does not see by definition? How can we shed light in our darkness? Dream analysis, surely is one option. Sexuality and illnesses, never lie. They are fair, because the originate from within.

A good way I've come to understand this is with the Star Wars lore. This will sound nerdy, but in Star Wars Episode 3 where Mace Windu basically defeats Palpatine, he's able to do so because he understands, and can tap into, his dark side which allowed him to, for lack of a better term, unleash himself and ultimately defeat Palpatine.

The shadow isn't always your "dark side." I'd rather have people see the darkest parts of who I am than to show the side of me that is soft and loving because people disrespected and took advantage of that side. I despise that weak person, but I've been doing shadow work to find balance.

My experience of Christ’s perfect love has given me the courage to see and accept my fallen nature - my shadow . There is a lot misunderstood about the Shadow. In the east it is just called the yin and the yang. In the west it is good and evil, but the truth is people who consider themselves “good” are usually the ones hiding from their darkness, their reality is unbalanced. Integrating the Shadow, is like taking a child by the hand. Think about it like this, without the Sun, without Light we wouldn’t have a Shadow, the same principle applies. Thank you for this wonderful video and your words!

Good morning, Einzelgänger. I’m a fan of your channel. It’d be awesome if you can make a video regarding Forgiveness. I know you tackled how to let go of resentment, and the practice of letting go, but I think it’s essential to shed light on the key steps to forgive our enemies. Cause in my experience, people telling you that you should forgive and reminding you of the benefits of forgiveness don’t help you to actually forgive. You need some pointers as to where to start the inner work towards forgiveness. In my case, I’m at least identifying the injustices I’ve committed towards me and others, and the injustices people have done to me, so I can know what I’m forgiving when I am ready to do so.

This video came right on time. I just came back from a cruise with my family, and although I always try to do the right thing, I'm also very different from them and ended up by myself most of the time during the cruise. I embraced being myself and exploring the islands we visited at the expense of not seeing them. It upset them, but their contempt isn't going to stop me from embracing myself, even though even now that we came back they're not talking to me because of judgement (despite all the crazy stuff they did) and no acceptance of my individuality.

There is a difference between acknowledging the dark side in ourselves, being aware of it and acting upon it. There is nothing to discover by playing out the dark side. Many people have acted upon their evil thoughts and regretted it. But acknowledgment in order to deal with it in a healthy way is a whole other thing. Like going on a self discovery journey to find out the reasons behind some dark motives or urges. And that is what religion is all about but has failed to imply in our everyday life by taking over the role of God and judging people. If we leave the right to judge to God and witness ourselves as flawed human beings there would be no oppression. But there should be limits to this. If we don’t give ourselves the right to judge bad behavior to some extent, especially that, which is harmful to society, like murder for instance, we are signing up to the doom of the human race.
