Embracing Fear As An Artist - learning how to let go & step into the unknown✨ 🎨📚

Happy Friday, friends!
As we continue in the month of January & the newness of a new year, I wanted to take some time and chat about something I have been working on in my own life both personally and in regards to my art journey. Fear plays a big role in how I approach life in general and it is something I want to change how I react to it. The book 'My Friend Fear - Finding Magic in the Unknown' by Meera Lee Patel has been a transformative book for me in this area and I wanted to share some thoughts I have been working through lately. I also recently discovered the lovely artist @ema_malyauka on instagram and have started her course, Sketchbook Techniques for Children's Illustration on Domestika! Her fearlessness when it comes to sketchbooks is so incredibly inspiring and has really helped me get started on this journey of embracing fear and jumping into my sketchbooks! When we face our fear, courage takes its place. Behind fear there is courage. These two books help me work through fear and see it for what it was, "Awareness" and "Fear" by Osho. His writings help me when I needed to overcome anxiety, panic attacks and fear. I realized now how fear, insecurities held me back for many years. I hope you continue growing and making beautiful art. Thank you for your video.

Today I had some bad news. As an (inspiring) artist this news will challenge my future. I saw this news coming from miles away. And for a while, I was desperate. Seeing dreams disappear in thin air. But this is all fear like you guys are saying, Just keeping up the courage to keep dreaming, making art. Even if no one sees or gets it. I'm still an artist. I had to re-watch this video when I got home from doing errands. You certainly inspire others by not only sharing your life/talent but for sharing encouraging words/ beautiful poetry. I am a great admirer of anyone who can create art as well as write poetry. I love your new decorated sketch book and how you are experimenting with different mediums. The bird and flowers have that three dimensional look with the different textures. It really is beautiful. I did look at the book your recommended today at Powells. It really is a lovely book. I did not buy it but got some wonderful inspiration from just looking at the quotes. Thank you for the recommendation. Fear is something we all have to deal with in some form or another. For me it is driving alone to new places way outside my area to be in nature. I won't go into the reason why here but I intend to push myself to do it. Wishing you a wonderful weekend Randi. In 2022 I decided to let my bullet journal be a place to capture my thoughts, feelings, draw. I told myself I’d rather capture 50% of the year than 0% so I didn’t beat myself up or abandon if I missed some time + I was actually super consistent once I gave myself this permission + flexibility. I did skip an entire month when I was having an exceptionally hard time but other than that most of my year is captured and I’m so grateful! Excited to keep up with your journey 🥰✨📖

this video has opened my eyes a lot... helped me see ways to use all those art supplies I've been buying lately but never used for fear, or the lack on inspiration, ideas, etc. I've never been good at drawing or painting, as in never know what to do with the stuff. I just think I'm not good enough, I don't know what to paint or draw... but the mix media you used in those illustrations really inspired me :) thank you.

You might appreciate a book I found back in about 1994. It's titled "Art and Fear." I really thought it had some good ideas. Well, I loaned it out and it wasn't returned. I've thought about trying to get it back, but perhaps this artist friend of mine needed that book. Maybe even more than I did. Thanks for letting me know! It is actually a lot more complicated than people think in the editing process to nail it down perfectly, as it can sound differently from one persons device to another. I will continue to try to perfect it, but I probably won't be able to please everyone. There is also auto-generated Closed Captions which can be an option if one would like subtitles.
