Hi my beautiful friends and welcome to my a week in my art studio! My name is Sydney, but some people call me The Blind Artisan because im a visually impaired artist. I’m on a mission to chase my dreams to one day become the best artist that I can possibly be.
This week, join me as I tackle one of my largest paintings to date while discussing the different ways that I keep my creative spark alive! Whew I finally was able to finish this! Took me 3 sessions cause of baby lol but omg this was such a nice video! I love your outfit that you wore to the show, it looked so lovely 🩷 and watching this, I feel inspired to actually finish decorating my office space. I've had prints and art work laying around in my office, and I've been wanting to hang them all up so it feels more comfy and inspiring instead of cluttered lol. So thank you for a beautiful message! I feel like cultivating a cozy and inspiring space is so important for us as artists, but I think it’s easy for us to neglect because most of the time, painting and creating art is the most important part! @@Theblindartisan He is! Thank you! & of course, they're so nice and calming and inspiring! Lol and I saw a comment recently saying the same thing, that they don't have a cozy space because they're too focused on creating but I agree with you! Because I'll take a break and look around and think geez these walls are bare lol. I have most of them in frames, I just need two more but they're for larger sized prints and I've looked at so many goodwills and can't find anything haha but maybe I'll get lucky soon! Awww! That's so sweet, thank you so much!!

Right?!!! I always imagined that larger canvases would be harder to work on, but I’ve found that it’s actually the opposite for me! Do you enjoy painting on larger canvases as well?

Wow! Your work is amazing. Ive been in a creative rut for over a year now. Seeing the enthusiasm that you have for your art is inspiring. I do have a question. What kind of surface are you painting on? If it's canvas, could you please tell me how its mounted? P.S. You and your mom are beautiful.

Awww thank you so much for this sweet comment! I’m so happy that this video brought you some creative inspiration and I really hope that you’re able to get your creative spark again! ☺️ When it comes to the surface that I’m working on, I’m actually working on paper that is mounted to two mat boards. (One that’s the boarder and another that’s behind) Long story short, I thrifted this canvas and there turned out to be a print inside instead of an original painting. Originally, I was going to separate it from the mat boarder, but it was secured really well and I was afraid that I would rip the paper. Instead, I decided to paint over the print all together with a gesso base before I started painting and it’s held up well! I hope that this provides a little more clarity!

Can i ask in what way are you visually a blind artist? you have bad myopia?

Good question! I have albinism, which caused sensitivity in my eyes because of the lack of pigment it also caused my eyes to not fully develop. I also have an eye condition called nystagmus which affects my vision as well but I think it’s attributed to albinism as well. (Although not everyone with albinism has it)
