Thank you more than you can realize. So many people say I must not use my embroidery thread for piecing. I felt like it was durable enough... but was concerned. Now I feel comfortable using it whenever and wherever I want. Thank you for your great investigative, informative post.

Thanks Garry, found this very interesting. I've been sewing for about 17 years, youtube taught and supported by a patient wife. What I valued about your video was how much information there was. There's lots of info on fabrics, patterns etc. very little by comparison on threads. I'd love to see more on weight, thickness' etc. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Regards from North Wales UK

This was very informative; I was just recently wondering what thread to use for fancy stitches on my new sewing machine (which isn't, strictly speaking, an embroidery machine; just has a nice array of non utility decorative stitches), and it seems either of the threads mentioned above will work just fine. FYI, if you answer someone's question on a video on KZbin, (if the recipient has the correct setting enabled), clicking their "Like" thumbs up button will notify them that you've answered their query, otherwise they may never know unless they come back to the video. KZbin isn't "direct message" friendly any more.

Thank you for your message. You can use machine embroidery threads to stitch out your decorative stitches with no problem. You just have to adjust your tension accordingly :)

Thank you so much for this video. I just purchased a box of 63 spools of embroidery thread. I started a project last night that requires a small piece of fabric (7-1/4 x 11) to be quilted. I am having so many problems. The borrom of the piece looks perfect. The top stitches are wavy, and it is driving me crazy. I did all of the usual things like rethreading the machine, putting the bobbin in and out, replacing the needles, adjusting tension, and it was not helping. I hate to think I just purchased all of this thread, and I cannot use it. I am going to search your videos to see if you did one about tension.

What heat setting did you have your iron set at as the heat of the iron can affect the thread. Can you send some photo's to our head office of what is occurring to this email address: support@echidnasewing.com.au

Hi thanks for this information I’ve wondered about this a lot and now I have the answer at long last. However can we use the sewing thread for embroidery in that case if we don’t want a shiny embroidery?
@EchidnaClub3 жыл бұрын
Yes you can! In fact we make a lot of free standing lace from our Softlight mercerised cotton, which provides a matte finish. www.echidnasewing.com.au/?rf=kw&kw=mercerised+cotton

Would I be able to use a polyester cotton thread for sewing on an embroidery machine? I picked a pool up by mistake and I had to use a bigger needle instead of a 7511 needle like common embroidery thread. What is your recommendation thank you.
@EchidnaClub Жыл бұрын
Using a polyester-cotton blend thread for embroidery is possible, but it may not yield the same results as using specialized embroidery thread. Polyester-cotton blend thread is often used for general sewing purposes and is not specifically designed for the unique demands of machine embroidery. Check the thread you're using is color-fast as often embroidered items are frequently washed.

Hi Gary, Is it possible to use cotton thread for embroidery machines?
@EchidnaClub Жыл бұрын
@adnanabdull4h You can use embroidery cotton on your machine such as our Softlight Mercandised Cotton Embroidery thread: www.echidnasewing.com.au/threads/softlight-mercerised-cotton/ If it is normal cotton sewing thread, your design has to be suitable for a thicker thread - such has hand stitch look embroidery designs.
@janetkealy36859 ай бұрын
Hi, if using embroidery thread to sew, what would go in the bobbin? Match it, or stick with normal sewing thread? ..
@EchidnaClub9 ай бұрын
Hi there, generally you'd want to match top and bottom threads. You might need to adjust your bobbin case tension if using embroidery thread in your bobbin.
@JoshBombFiberArts2 жыл бұрын
But can you use sewing thread for cross stitch? Like could I buy a spool of sewing thread and use it in place of DMC for hand stitching.
@EchidnaClub2 жыл бұрын
You can but you would need to use more threads to make up the thickness recquired for cross stitching.

Could I use the machine embroidery thread for hand embroidery?
@EchidnaClub2 жыл бұрын
Yes you can but it is better to use hand embroidery thread as it is smoother. You could try using bees wax on the thread if it is all you have.
