Hi sir , I do have the same machine. If I may suggest , I wil advise to not extend the tubing by any means of inserting anything in them . Simply extend them by releasing the nut at the up right side and adjust the lengt according your needs. I see you keep it quite short . Also doing so you wan’t need to cut the tubing at the other side like you have mantioned. Also I will pick something smaller in size for a grinding stone. The emcostar has 2 velocity and starts at 1500 rev a minute wich is too much for a stone so heavy . It wil cost you the motor at long run. Keep up posting i like your videos also I think its a shame that so few people know about the existence of this great tool.

I have one the same and I love it. I leave my wire wheel fitted by means of the original two jaw chuck which centres very well. The part on the bench that you were unsure of goes on top of the tilting table to the left this allows the spring loaded foot to apply downward pressure. This would be used with the cutter block for moulding wood but I use it on steel while running a small grinding wheel. I would agree with the gent who advised against using a large wheel because of vibration. There are some other accessories I am looking out for ,like the fret saw that bolts on where the circular saw blade fits and the encore Rex planer thicknesser Keep up the good work we all enjoy watching your progress regards Mick

I have one of these machines over forty years and did a lot off work with it. I noticed you took off bandsaw table to tilt machine. There is no need to do that. There is an add on planer thicknesses called emco Rex that mounts on rails and drives with rubber cross drive. I mounted mine on separate table with it’s own drive motor. The bandsaw blades broke too often due to small wheels with too much stress on blades. Brilliant machine for small workshop.

I do have to say, while I have not owned one, I have used a Black & Decker workstation before. It's not a bad product, but I think you're asking a lot from it for a machine tool. It looks like it golden opportunity for a 20 foot stick of c channel and a as much 30 in wide steel you can find at least 3/8 thick. That will let you level all the machines with simple nuts and bolts and they will all work together land rigidity. I think they could be easily designed to be separate for foot modular tables that bolt to each other if you think you might move one day soon. At least my experience has been that rigidity is everything in machining. Just my two cents. As I said, I have not owned a workmate, maybe I'm not giving it adequate credit. I'm sure you know what's best. Be well. Thanks for showing us
@TheKnacklersWorkshop
@TheKnacklersWorkshop 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Jean-Paul, Good to hear from you... I should have reminded viewers that the Black and Decker is a temporary solution to try and establish what sort of permanent bench will be the best. I am working on a limited budget and don't have the luxury of over engineering solutions but just have to take small stops prototype, test, amend. I would say the workmate is surprisingly stable. Thanks for watching. Take care. Paul,,

I like it! Well, my father has one and it has made many, many hours. Mostly as a table-saw but we used all the other components on it too. His one is standing on a separate movable bench with 2 wheels, nice and stable when on its place but when you lift-tilt it it can be moved around to get the best working-condition and angles. I think that is a neather setup then on a Workmate which is not that sturdy when using it as a tablesaw I know from experience. Nice to see it here since I have a Unimat myself now ;-)

Hello Elvin, Many thanks for taking the time to watch my video and commenting. Your fathers setup sounds really good... given time and budget I would like to do something similar for mine. I understand your friend's criticism. However, the advantages lie in the cost and space required for each separate machine if one is to perform each of the functions available on this combo. Obviously no combo performs everything perfectly, but most functions can be done adequately.
@jpsimon206
@jpsimon206 2 жыл бұрын
Forgive me if this comes off patronizing, I don't know what experience you have with grinding. I think you want to start keeping an eye out for a powerful inline fan and if you don't already have a way to vent it outdoors, a large can filter. You can find these at any indoor gardening store. And if you buy any used grinding wheels, toss them in your oven on the lowest setting for half an hour and then let them normalize for at least 24 hours before you use them. Some of the older binders we're not very consistent and how they age, particularly depending on how they were stored. The heat and normalization, ideally on a flat surface, sort of resets the wheel. Congratulations though, it looks like a very interesting machine!

@TheKnacklersWorkshop

Hello Jean-Paul, From a grinding point of view the setup will be pretty much the same as a small bench grinder... where I have positioned the EMCO Star is next to opening windows which should help with ventilations. I think it will be very unlikely to purchase any used stones and the speed I work most things sit in the workshop for week before I use them. Thanks for watching. Take care. Paul,,

It actually works for (light/thin) metal without problems with the metal-cutting blades that belong to it. Slow enough at least. I have been doing this on it. But it is taking a lot of time switching blades from metal to wood and cleaning well enough to do good woodworking so it is better to keep a separate metal-saw for that.

Why add plugs to the left side but cut off the right side of the rails. Is there something keeping you from shifting the rails over so you have enough on the left side and not too much on the right side? I feel like I am missing something.
@TheKnacklersWorkshop
@TheKnacklersWorkshop 2 жыл бұрын
Hello, Good question and sorry for not explaining better in the video. As I showed the machine was placed on the workmake to have the center of gravity directly over the center of the open jaws. I also the machine to be over the the center of the workmate legs, therefore if I want to make the rails stick out further I would then need to make the benchtop bigger and I thought everything may become less stable. So having the removable plug seemed to make sense. Long term I would like to have it on a real bench. Thanks for watching. Take care. Paul,,
@elvinhaak
@elvinhaak Жыл бұрын
@@TheKnacklersWorkshop For woodlathe, you really want to have the long rails though. They make woodworking nice on it since you almost always use that endpiece to make your wood stable and therefore have longer material on both sides of the workpiece which become cutoffs later because they are kind of damaged in the process. On the spindle-side you take some 5cms off and on the right side about 8-10 cms in practise at least. Most of the times I really wanted it to be longer when I used it. Because of the waste, many times you make multiple pieces at once and then cut them off only.
