"Most controversial show" _Turns to Carolina Thunder 1999:_ 😈
@brandonking1737 Жыл бұрын
Back in 2021 when WGI had the virtual season, my winds group entered an eShowcase video since restrictions prevented us from creating an in-person show. Anyways, we quoted Planet of the Apes ("Damn you, damn you all to hell!") in the show. And we got DISQUALIFIED for it. Apparently the decision was kinda controversial as well, the decision had to go all the way to the CEO.

Our high school band used to change into uniforms on the bus coed at the contest site! Of course, that was 40+ yrs ago. Boy have times changed regarding undies being shown, lol! By the way, we were the first champions of the Bands of America finals contest (then known as Marching Bands of America). :)

This was always our underclassmen favorite part of trips. LOL, as an adult looking back, my goodness we were some goofy azz kids, but band was 100% a great experience and influence on the rest of my life (though I don't really play anymore).

A couple of years ago, I was in Show Choir, and we had just finished a show. Our director told us to wait in the room, after 15 minutes, we all just decided to change out of our costumes into our casuals just co-ed. It was one of those "What happens in this room stays in this room moment"
@BenRichards227 Жыл бұрын
We were still doing this in 2010, no idea if they still do.
@YeethusCries Жыл бұрын
We would probably do the same but our Band was a bit underfunded. The drumline and sousaphones would take up 2 or 5 rows from the rear and the rest of the 40-50 people would sit 2 to 3 per bench on the bus. Changing was horrible the 1st year. We'd split the boys from the girls. Until the following year we would wear basketball shorts and a white tee under our uniforms and the girls would wear leggins or booty shorts or the volleyball shorts whatever they felt was comfortable in the uniform. If they wore those booty shorts or volleyball shorts they'd throw on some sweats or basketball shorts or simply some leggins for the awards. I miss the Marching Band Days too bad I chose to follow my pops Construction route over the Marching Band.

wth i basically did this as a skit at a talent show in 1996 lol but the theme was "you can't stop a drummer from drumming" (taking away all the instruments one by one). After all the drums were gone, I was drumming on my lap and floor with my hands, then I got tackled and pinned so i couldn't drum so I start scatting lol
@terrencekuhns4498 Жыл бұрын
I had never marched indoor (high school didn't have the budget for a program and thus independent never caught my eye), but 2015 was my first year teching a HS line in the same local circuit as CWP. I was at the infamous first show and it was hilarious! I had a LOT of friends who I had marched with in DCI and DCA previously in that group and I was a big supporter of theirs all the way through Finals (to this day the only time I've ever been able to make it out to Dayton). Getting to see it all again was awesome, love this vid EMC!
@socket_error1000 Жыл бұрын
I always find it ironic that people can be offended by "underwear" that is less revealing than acceptable beach attire or even required HS sports uniforms simply because they are typically considered intimate garments not normally seen publicly displayed. It says more about the type of person who is making a morality judgement on the type of clothing displayed rather than the actual potential for indecent exposure of the person in question.

I'm completely new to the drumline scene and wanted to know around how long did it take to get everything done from the moment you were presented with the music? I see the very difficult rhythm sections for all instruments so I'm guessing around 6-8 months of discipline, clean underwear, and hard work. Care to share your experience with it?
@timothyburt8014 Жыл бұрын
This was, indeed, a very creative show artistically speaking. I enjoyed the concept of gradually dismantling the ensemble, both the instruments and the uniforms. Musically, it had all the elements of a great drumline show. I appreciate you taking time to explain the changed ending for the "deconstructed uniform". The need for limits is defined by the those parts of society that will grant artistic license as long as it does not exceed social mores. However, this was not "cancel culture" but a rather of sense and civility. Presentations for -18 audiences should present something that is acceptable for a PG-rated movie. Example: DCI tested the market in Lubbock, Texas, for a possible regional event. The corps were around the city rehearsing at the various high schools. Local residents thought these were Lubbock high school students that were "scantily clad". The number of phone calls made to the school district administration resulted in the school district telling DCI thanks but no thanks. It didn't help that there was a weird summer storm that rained out the second half of the competition that night. Being a military man yourself, you understand decorum. Certain things are acceptable. Certain things are not.

Very cool show, but a very american thing. Violence in kids movies is fine. Carrying guns around is fine. But never dare to to expose underage people to something remotely obscene (with quite the broad definition), else you’ve got the parents protest rolling. That being said: Usually when we have people undressed in theaters as soon as they get backstage they are handed a shower coat. Although I’ve got to say, as a high scool student I would have done that too ...
