@Randall Slaughter there are some videos were you can kind of hear. The best one is where they do a self load test but you can still barely hear anything. I miss the 710... kinda wish they'd make the 710 EPA complaint and throw it in the new SD70

The dpu units are never at full power atlease I've never heard one don't think that would make a whole lot of sense to be pushing hard at the back and not pull hard at the front dpu units are for slack control and assisting.
@jasonking29435 жыл бұрын
It would depend on the grade actually as to what the rear is doing If it's still pushing up grade then it could be pushing harder then the lead units which would keep the slack bunched together
@H3avyHaul3r4 жыл бұрын
what the DPU throttle setting is at depends on a few things (track profile, company route methodology, engineers feel)....on decent up/downhill grade you will have the DPUs follow the Leads throttle/DB settings....but in some undulating country you may choose to “put up the fence” and control the remotes independantly of the lead to manage run in/run outs by reductions the DPUs throttle settings.....one yard we use to come into on empties we even had the lead in DB and the DPUs in 2 notches of power to control the slack due to the undulating profille....even trains i’ve driven the company went through fuel saving tests by having the dpu’s in idle or 1 notch on their empties ....railroads are looking for efficiency all the time, usually rehashing things from the last 50yrs of DP trains used over the world which us aussies have used since the late 60s
