I’m so glad that Violette Verdy & Mimi Paul were able to coach this. You can really see it.

wow thank you so much for uploading this! In my humble opinion, PNB is a much better custodian of Balanchine's legacy than NYCB

Decades of depredation by Martins. NYCB is no longer the temple of Balanchine.
@najah77819 ай бұрын
@@genlyai5055 it is insane how he has been allowed to systematically get rid of EVERYBODY else that had a personal connection to Balanchine. All that is left is Martins' own intepretation of the works, I was actually kind of shocked when I delved into it a little deeper

@@najah7781 Yes. Martins is a real cunt. Fortunately, now that NYCB is finally out from under his tyranny, they are having people like Farrell and McBride back to coach. It's a small ray of hope.

I love the dancer who did such a musical and expressive job on the Sicilienne. I've been researching all the dancers doing that variation and she was my favorite along with Von Aroldingen.

That was wonderful. Thank you for sharing this video. They truly get what Mr. B. wanted.

Just watched Paris Opera s one staged by Pat Neary last night, felt PNB danced much better. More natural flowing, less forceful and trying. Many details like hands head, and feet’s and mostly the “and” were lost and felt very flat with less dynamic in Paris opera one. Also felt they seems to be behind little in music, and music little slow as well. One major ballerina trying to say after the show that Balanchine likes cold ballerina so she ‘trying’ to be cold, which is total misunderstanding. He wanted natural .. anyway I felt Verdi’s hands in the lead ballerina’s dance. And many more details and smoothness but dynamic. Thank you so much John! Btw I agree, even NYCB sometimes seems trying too hard to ‘show’

Sadly, POB severely miscast their DVD of Jewels. Clairemarie Osta, who was born for the McBride role in Rubies, was given the Paul role in Emeralds--a part for a tall, grand ballerina, exactly the opposite of the wonderful soubrette Osta. Laetitia Pujol, who sucked in everything, slaughtered the beautiful Verdy role. Aurelie Dupont, a great dancer but a coldly flawless one, was utterly wrong in the Rubies ballerina role--the worst thing she ever danced. She clearly should have had the Verdy role. And Agnes Letestu, who was a taller and even more icily soulless Dupont without the perfect technique, ruined Diamonds.
