EMERALDS (Music: Faure / Ch: Balanchine)

Here is an abridged version of EMERALDS, the first ballet in George Balanchine's plotless 3 Act ballet masterpiece named, JEWELS. This was from a PBS broadcast in 1978, when Balanchine was still alive and directing his company. Since his death, JEWELS has gone into the repertory of nearly every major ballet company in the world.

I don't mean to give you a hard time, but should you really be posting this? After all, I've bought this and other DVDs from the NYCB and I'm sure it's still available for sale, so is this really helpful to the company? Just asking.

No, but it's helpful for the arts, which is more important than the business that runs a billion dollar company. Without Balanchine alive we only have this as his legacy, and is vital for people who is not in countries where Balanchine's work is performed often. I'm sure NYCB will be just fine without, how much, 30 dollars? that would be gaining from selling a DVD.
