Emergency fundraiser for two "direct ship" Belgian Draft horse mares from Bowie Texas Livestock.

Episode 89 EMERGENCY FUNDRAISER!!!
We are in the process of rescuing two "direct ship" Belgian Draft horse mares that are at Bowie Texas Livestock. They are scheduled to be shipped on the next truck so we need your support to save them. Both of these mares are in need of medical attention. I have had so many people reaching out to me this week to help these mares and last night we decided to save them.
Lot# 8111 is a 17 year old mare with a swollen back left leg. It looks to be laminitis which is a condition some Belgians can get after working their whole lives. Their lymphatic system stops functioning properly and fluid builds up in the leg. Our foundation has experience with this condition and we have found that acupuncture helps elevate the symptoms associated with this condition. We won't know for sure until we can get her to the vet.
Lot# 8113 is a 16 year old mare. Her right eye has been surgically removed and it looks like she has a tumor in her left eye that needs to be treated and removed.
Both of these girls have been used on farms pulling carriages or equipment and used for breading. They deserve a place to retire peacefully in dignity and grace. We will do all we can for both of these horses but we need your support to save them. After my accident, we were not planning on rescuing any horses this soon but there was no way we could let these Belgian Draft horse mares go to slaughter.

I wish I could help in other ways, but with a fixed income, I don’t do much. But watch your videos and pray and thank you guys every time I watch one that you’re saving those beautiful large animals. I feel terrible that the Amish think they have to beat them down before they surrender them, but I wouldn’t trust an Amish person sorry I’ve seen other horses that they have beat nearly to death at Young ages😢 I’m not saying every Amish is bad but most of them that come to those stockyards are terrible

The first weekend, we did 2 classes at 1m 05 and finished 4th overall, and this past weekend, we did 2 classes, 1m 05, and finished 2nd overall !! And they were the 2 stallions I've been training for 3 yrs!! We had people stopping by after the last class, saying what gorgeous "geldings" we had, the owners were there. And they were all stunned to find out thar they were stallions!!! I'm so proud of how well they did. I took 1 one weekend, then the other last weekend. So, things are going well. Squamous cell carcinoma is the most common cancer to affect the eyelid and ocular surface in horses. Several breeds, including Haflingers and Belgians, are genetically predisposed to developing this cancer. Treatment depends on the size and location of the tumor. (Cornell's website)

Friesians too. I follow a channel in the Lake District in the UK, who rescue Friesians. One of their horses has reoccurring tumours, one was on his eye. Currently two near his sheath being treated.

Do u follow, or have heard of the Horse Plus Humane Society? they're Tennessee based, but do various grants and have a mentoring programme, but also actively work with other horse rescue charitiies, facilitating and building a network of across america, working together pulling horses from the slaughter pipeline. They also do a lot of campaining for animal welfare, i cannot sing their praises enough to be honest. You should absolutely check out their channel and what they are about, who knows, they may be able to help and assist with future rescue cases. x

I've just found out the Northland horses are being slaughtered in Ahipara, NZ, if there's anyone that would like to help set up a place for these wild horses to go then contact me. If I had the yard facilities I would take the lot. Sad, this is happening in our own country. Also there are greyhound racing kennels that order a truckload of East coast horses to feed their dogs. These seem to be more dun, cream lovely looking stocky ponies, (around 14hh) - super pretty, a friend grabbed one off the truck when she heard about it - can we get together to rehome these horses ?? Anyone in NZ want to help these horses? Inhuman, sad situations.

I assume everyone who is horrified these horses will be slaughtered is a vegetarian, yes? If not, perhaps consider giving up meat and dairy. Cows and horses are not very different. Cows are loving, wonderful creatures and deserve kind treatment as well. Can you imagine the horror cows are subjected to producing babies and being slaughtered for food?

I live on the other side of a small lake across from a cattle ranch. It is so heartbreaking when the cowboys separate the moms from their babies. I hear their mooing all day and night... Every fiber wants me to go there and reunite them and stop their trauma...

​@@peacenow4456 there's usually numerous reasons they separate them. Branding, deworming/meds, castrating ext. I totally understand the feeling behind it all. It can be heartbreaking. I just view horses different from cows raised for meat. Imo horses shouldn't be eaten. I'm assuming that's why they are shipped to Mexico for it because us Americans would never dream of eating horse meat. But I can understand the humanness behind it all. The abuse and conditions some are subject to. I can't stand to see ANY animals treated poorly. I don't even understand why we are shipping horses off for meat like this. It's horrific imo.
