I love Kev but a good coach? 3 out of the 4 years we missed the 8. Not knocking last year's result because that was fantastic but this year he has clearly looked out of his depth. He had no answers for why the team wasn't performing and appeared clueless at times. He has done a wonderful job bringing back the culture to the club but has definitely struggled with managing the team.

@@clutch7548 But part of being a coach, who by the way, wanted control of managing the roster, is having the personal to replace them. Again, it's not about just win/lose but how they how they win/lose. The first time we played the Titans this year (36-34 loss) is a perfect example. We didn't have Reynolds but had a strong side playing a reserve grade Titans side. Look at who played for the Titans that day AND they had injuries in game. That was one of the worst performances I've seen. That's on the coach to make a statement and turn things around and we didn't.

In critical games eg. most recent v Bulldogs, Kevvie made positional changes in the backs that made no sense. He put Arthurs on right wing (should be left), Cobbo at left wing (should've been left centre) & Marina at left centre (should've been right wing). Bulldogs worked out early that Cobbo & Marina were confused in defence playing in new positions & bulldogs exploited it all game. Clearly highlights that Kevvie's coaching & football structures are all over the place. He was the guy at one point no doubt & sadly this year has not been the guy. We all love Kevvie & Broncs got it right though, he had to go. Let's go Broncos.

The Broncos did well last year to get to a grand final. But their problem was they thought they were living legends and they had actually achieved nothing yet. It was obvious that their run wouldn't last if there wasn't a serious overhaul of their immature attitudes. And here we are - a few players injured and they can't even make the eight, why? They were never the real deal to begin with. Being able to break tackles and run fast only gets you so far. The Broncos have a much bigger problem than supposedly poor ol' Kevvie.

Passes metres forward out of dummy half and into the grandstand for wingers, dropped balls, non-existent defence, etc etc - how the hell is any coach to blame for the bullshit the Broncos dished up through the season. And how the hell is Kevvie to blame for 400 people in the dressing room. The point about most of the players celebrating after being flogged is exactly right. Again, how is a coach to blame for that. Whoever they get has to be given the right to kick players up the arse and not tiptoe around their precious fragile egos. Go the Dolphins - a team with guts!

@tnbaldwin6709 Ай бұрын
Having suffered through the 90s when the Broncos were the guns, I don't mind watching them go through a rough patch. Nevertheless, here are a few thoughts no-one asked for: - I'm not convinced Kevin Walters had proven he's a good coach. His record overseas isn't great (percentage wins in the 30s, I believe). Nor did he experience much success as SOO coach. Comments like the bake he gave that journalist a few weeks ago or when he said the Broncos were waiting for players to come back after Origin to get some wins show he isn't proactive but reactive. The old boys got him in, but aside from last year (which is still a fine achievement), he has been largely unsuccessful. His biggest mistake was probably letting go of Ben Ikin. By all accounts he's a good bloke, but his coaching credentials aren't flattering. - With this in mind, the Broncos probably made the right call in letting him go. Otherwise they likely would have wasted another year. A lot of the comments have been around the media scrutiny the Broncos are constantly under. Kevvie didn't seem to handle that very well. - It may have been James Graham (genius) or perhaps another ex-player worthy of respect for their insight, but someone mentioned how teams have two ways they can react to a Grand Final loss. One is to believe the hype and that they have arrived. The other is to view the loss as a failure, knuckle down, and aim to go one better next year. The Panthers did the former. The Broncos did the latter. - The criticisms of Reece Walsh are harsh. Time will tell whether he is overhyped and he perhaps he has believed his own press somewhat. However, he heeded the wakeup call when he was suspended for abusing the referee, improving his on-field behaviour. He dazzles on the field like few before him. And no player, let alone a half or fullback, is the complete product at 21. But now he needs a coach who'll help him manage the on-field and off-field expectations. With the right support, he could become as brilliant as he has been told he is. - Sounds like Maguire has the inside running, which is a big loss for NSW but probably the best option. People are right to question whether Madge will make it work under such scrutiny, especially after his struggles at the Tigers. Three games per year with the best players in the competition is very different to the week-to-week grind. For mine, Slater is the only other available coach who could do a job, and it sounds like he is isn't interested at this point - and has also only been coaching three games per year. As Jimmy suggested, their only other option would be to poach someone who already has a job but has a hard enough edge to get the best out of the squad. However, I'm not sure any of them would be keen for the job. Hannay might have a shot. Apologies for the essay.

Kevin Walters wasn't on the field at Accor last year. Watch the lack of effort and intelligence by Walsh in those final 20 minutes. Willie Mason often says you just bite down on your mouthguard and play 'til the end. Walsh almost needs his own trainer to sook him through every game he plays. Now imagine last year's winning SOO coach training Walsh. Tears all day. Remember the tactics he gave Critta - Maguire is so in tune with Walsh's character flaws and on field inadequacies. Billy Slater would intervene. Would Maguire have to work with Slater during SOO season to help Queensland. Interesting times.

Players wearing f@$king fingernail polish and being more worried about their social media profile don’t make a footy team. New coach needs to sack half those players and employ some actual men. Pathetic attitude most players carried through the year,

I not no why walsh at 21 has got so many haters. Billy slater stater thinks hes a genuine star ot the future. Speed is power and has a brilliant long pass.. 1 million is no big deal for a fullback..

Broncos leadership has made a mistake. Too much corporate thinking. Not enough relationship building. It shows that the board doesn't know how to build community. Whispers in the background have undermined Kevvie all year so isn't any wonder the Broncos fell away as the season progressed. There is the sense of the importuned here. All because some pencil necks think they know better than a man as good, experienced, knowledgeable and talented as Kevin Walters.
