Thanks for making this video. I’m currently In my basw and going into advance standing MSW. I want to go into er social work or hospice maybe the pediatric unit. Your videos have been supper helpful. Can you talk more about safety when in the field and how to protect yourself and even when doing home visits.

Safety when in the field is a great idea for a future video. I will be sure to add that to my list. Thank you for watching and I am glad you found this video helpful!

@@MillennialSocialWorker please do! I’m still debating because some settings you can wear jeans and a hat. In some setting you need to be very professional or wear at least some sort of cardigan.

Love the video. I’m starting an MSW program this fall. What are the average number of patients you have at one time in the ER? And is a medical social worker considered an independent contractor or do they receive benefits like health and life insurance through the hospital? Thank you!
@MillennialSocialWorker3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. The number of patients you will have in an ER setting is completely based on the number of beds (ie. Capacity) of the ER in the hospital where you work and the number of Social Work consults you receive from day to day. In a hospital setting, the Medical Social Worker is a part of the hospital staff not an independent contractor. They receive all the benefits that comes along with being a fulltime employee. I have never encountered a scenario where Medical Social Workers in hospitals have been independent contractors. Social Workers are typically independent contractors in outpatient private practice.
@latishawalker50093 жыл бұрын
It is possible a medical social work can be PRN as needed. In that position they would not receive any benefits. They will basically be working when they are available or when there is a need for a social worker. I’ve seen a few job postings like that
@MillennialSocialWorker3 жыл бұрын
@@latishawalker5009 Agreed. But a PRN "as needed" employee is not the same as an independent contractor.

Just earned my LMSW back in December and looking to get into the hospital setting as a case manager. Most places I apply for need at least two years experience. Where do I start?
@MillennialSocialWorker Жыл бұрын
Congratulations! If you are not already doing so, you should be including your internship as a part of your work experience and/or work with a resume specialist to create a strong resume. Many employers put years of experience as a preference, not a requirement. Dont let that stop you from applying.

@MillennialSocialWorker3 жыл бұрын
I would suggest on your resume, make sure to highlight your skills and how it matches what the potential employer is looking for. It will also be beneficialto work with a resume builder.

can you have your bachelors in SW and work in the ER?
@MillennialSocialWorker2 жыл бұрын
That would depend on the hospital but a lot of employers want candidates to have a Masters degree.

Thanks for the video!! Quick question how long do you work with the patient since it's a ER. I don't know if you still work with the patient once they have left the hospital or ER. Thanks!
@MillennialSocialWorker3 жыл бұрын
You are welcome. Good question. Once a patient is discharged/ transferred to another hospital or Unit from the ER, your work as an ER Social Worker is done. You will work with the patient the duration of their stay in the ER which can be a few hours to several days depending on the case.
