Hey everyone! Super, super excited to be diving into the very beginnings of the Fallout series, I've been looking forward to this for so long. Please remember this is a blind playthrough, so no spoilers or backseating! :) 7 days of Early Access is also available by supporting me directly on Patreon! Patrons are currently a few episodes ahead on this series and it's a lot of fun. patreon.com/mapocolops

Excited for the playthrough!! I had a blast playing this for the first time last year. Figuring out how the HUD works in these old games is always the worst! Im sure you will understand by the next episode, it took me a long time to realize some of the stuff you can do in this game haha. Hope you enjoy the game Mapo! Seeing you remark on memorable aspects of the Bethesda titles is great, something I’ve had a lot of fun with is playing through the old games and seeing what Bethesda themselves referenced to build onto their own stories.

Fallout. One of my favorite games of all times. But, as you clearly figured out it is definitely very archaic game control wise. This is a game that would could be improved by a remake IF they keep it turn based. Great first vid if it.

Aren't the inkspots in the public domain? Edit: I just checked and the recording of the song "Maybe" that interplay used in the game intro and credits is indeed in the public domain.

Where did you check it? From what I searched, "Maybe" as a recording recorded on the 11th of June, 1940, won't be in public domain until the 1st of January, 2041, due to the CLASSICS Act of 2018. Sure, maybe I got the wrong recording as they did multiple in 1940 with multiple artists. Still, all of them won't be in public domain until the 1st of January, 2041.

You did well with character creation, Gifted's a bit of a must have in old Fallouts as are Int and Agi. - You can manage companions' inventory via barter. - Right click on the weapon slot to reload and change attack modes. - Try to refrain from sprinkling skill points all over the place, that's a bad idea in pretty much every rpg and many skills in Fallout are of dubious use. Make sure you can actually hit stuff before experimenting too much. - You can restore hp just by passing time and while travelling. You can use the First Aid and Doctor skills on yourself to restore hp, helps if you have actual medical items but they work somewhat even without. - The book you found increased your Outdoorsman skill. - Shady Sands is kind of an important town, try to remember it for the distant future.

@@FloofersFX The description isn't very accurate. The sprites you see in the game are 3D renders. Only the close-up faces of the voiced characters you meet throughout the game were sculpted in clay. They weren't animated in clay. The clay heads were "scanned" (not the same process as today, but the same result) and turned into 3D models, and then painted & animated in 3D modeling software afterwards.

i cant get into these early games, but im such a fallout fan, that i really wanna see it, so here i am. I was the same as you. I had never heard of Fallout until FO3 (PS3 for me). I remember seeing the trailers when it was announced on G4TV, and I thought it was so cool. And playing, I loved the lore, the 50s feel, the music, the fact I had been to DC as a kid and could recognize some placed, and the gameplay and fell in love. I actually hated NV when it came out because it was none of that. it was country music (hate country music), no 50s feel, deserts, just didnt click. I never could go back to NV after FO4 launched because it was dated, until recently when I finally gave it a go. I played FO3 first again, then NV, and I can wholeheartedly say, its the best FO game (of the new ones), by far. FO3 didnt age well, and FO4, while newer and shinier, is much more shallow than FONV. While i did replay FO4 again in my little run, I'd go back to NV before going back to 4 again.

Oh my. So, I've never played the original Fallouts either, but I DO remember that when Fallout 3 came out it made a bit of a stir among fans. Why? Because the retro-future angle was something newly added in the third game! Prior to this, there was no 1950s styling going on. Instead, the dominant themes here are hot off the heels of the cold war. 1997 is far away enough from the reunification of Berlin but the possibility and horrors of nuclear annihilation was still very much something hovering in the greater zeitgeist. So sadly, no Elvis impersonators or roller-skate diners for you! However I've heard plenty about the strength of the writing and characters (and some of the much less desirable gameplay elements). Looking forward to seeing it with you!

Oh nice! Despite being a 80s child, I only tried the original two Fallout games once, then quit because they were to hard. However I got into the other Fallout games. Last year I tried this one (Fallout 1) again and enjoyed it, though it is still very hard, as most gamse where then.

This game was first created under a contract with guros a competitor of dnd but the contract fell through and its creator had to make the special system to work on the dnd/gurps style dice roll game engine

U can use your right mouse button on the weapon in your hand to select aimed shot if the gun have that option. Also not maxing out perception will hurt in the long run.
