The section of the song that had you trippin on monkey video game music was being played by the musicians. The drummer was playing hand drums called tablas, and the guitar and bass were playing the droning sounds behind. Tool was my safety blanket throughout high school. They were my Woody and Buzz Lightyear.. Some context: this album was dedicated and centered around the life and passing of the vocalist's mother. A staunch Christian that never gave up faith after fighting cancer for over 25 years. 10,000 days. The monkey reference is a metaphor for humans not having evolved past war and conflict. Clubs are the technology that fool us into believing we've achieved a higher level of existence, but the FIRST thing we do is weaponize technology. We haven't evolved far enough to care for one another. The vocalist is an agnostic And in all honesty, the amount of metaphors in this record are staggering and spiritually deep.

It's the type of music that you are meant to feel how ever it is that you feel. And after you have listened to the songs enough to know the lyrics, it then makes you think "Is this song one of the songs that they have that is very plain to see what it's about or is it one of their songs that will make me think deeper to find out what they're trying to tell me." Big time Tool fan here. First off, I'm gonna get to any other Tool songs you've reacted to but I wanted to start with an introduction. A lot of their songs are deep like a well and others are fairly straight forward in their meaning. As for Right in Two, you nailed it; it's about humanity and how we, as a species, tend to fight and kill each other over resources, be it the land we live on or for precious metals and materials. Also, Danny Carey (the drummer) has a very extensive drum kit, including special drums with concentric circles based around the middle of the pad with each circle with the ability to be tuned to a different tone. That's how he was doing the tribal beat or "ancient" as you said. Much love NLS and I highly recommend you listen to Lateralus, The Pot, Jambi, 46&2, and Wings for Marie/ 10,000 Days. I put the slash on the last one as they're a set. To be fair I recommend you listen to their whole discography.

You got it. We’re the monkeys whose actions baffle the angels. They say there’s enough Eden for everyone to share, and yet we fight one another over turf. We beat our brothers down for what they have rather than enjoying what we already have, all the while knowing that our lives are fleeting. tool is definitely one that grows on you. Their intricacies are overpowering, like, you can’t process the sound and the lyrics at the same time or your head might explode. Lol. “Easier” songs to start with: Sober, Schism, Ænema, Vicarious... Personal fave (of all songs, ever) is 10,000 Days. WARNING: Take Dramamine before listening to tool - it’s one hell of a roller coaster!

He just passed on and I'm making the trip from Michigan to Georgia to go and get him. Your videos and your energy have helped me fill the time at hotels and airports with more laughter than tears. That sound/beat is Danny on the drums playing tabla. He has electronic pads to play the sounds he gets from other instruments or simply electronic sounds. He's sick! I believe it's Indian, iirc. Btw, his nickname is Octopus. 😂

The instrument used to make that beat are actually electronic pads on the drummer, Danny Carey's kit. The sounds are programmed in so he can make those sounds from his kit. The sounds are tabla, a traditional Indian drum. The drummer is one of the absolute best drummers to ever live and he is classically trained on tabla by one of the most renowned tabla instructors in the world. Trust me man, if you keep dipping your toe into the Tool waters, you are about to go on a very strange and exciting trip.

The song is basically angels watching humanity, confused as to why we act the fool when there's more than enough for everyone. And how we spend more time coming up with ways to kill each other than looking up and expanding our consciousness to grow as a species.

Great job man, can't wait for more. And you're going with the sort of odd timing naturally just fine dude, all good stuff. I might be blowing my load so to speak lol, but I might recommend Tool - The Grudge for the next one when you get around to it. Also (don't quote me on this, just what I've heard around) Tool doesn't enforce copyright on the lyric videos like this, so I think you're all good to just pause whenever you feel like. Anyway loved it dude, cheers! 🍻 Edit: a few other good possibilities Stinkfist, Eulogy, Aenima, Sober, Bottom, Jambi, or Schism.

The confusion with the head banging is because tool uses multiple time signatures throughout their songs. Instead of just a 1,2,3,4 they will go 1,2,3,4-1,2,3,4,5-1,2,3,4

"Japanese music or somethin'." Those sound like tabla, which are drums from India. But on this recording it sounds as if they're using a sample. They might be using triggers on an electronic drum pad/kit. From what I can tell, the time signature on most of this song is 11/8, which is also something you don't often hear in Western music. Tool are known for their unusual time signatures.
