Such a great progressive rock band from the 70's with a musical sound including classical music with jazz and symphonic rock elements. Also Emerson's flamboyant use of the Hammond organ, Moog synthesizer & piano. Their sound is like no other band. One of my favorite songs by them is "Fanfare For The Common Man" - Live at Nassau Coliseum '78. Sadly both Keith Emerson & Greg Lake died in 2016, leaving only Carl Palmer.

Greg Lake.... Guitar, Bass and vocals... Brilliant.... Absolutely a great album! Emerson and Palmer filling out sound envelope... Moving music into the future along with Yes, Genesis, Gentle Giant, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, Return To Forever, Steely Dan, ... Damn we had it so good... Wish there were some pushing the edge of the envelope today, so you can look back and say the same when you are 65....

Emerson Lake and Palmer was just one of the great bands from the late 60s and going into the 70s that was using different instruments and recording techniques and sound variations along with Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Moody Blues, Procol Harum and Jethro Tull to put together some of the greatest music of a generation

Loved your analysis. Always loved this song, and loved listening to it again for the 500th time. It is a song that is deceptively complex that requires at least a couple/few listens to first take-in all the music and then to pay attention to the lyrics. On par with “From the Beginning,” which is a masterpiece. Phenomenal band that I was fortunate enough to grow up listening to.

"Jerusalem" and "Hoedown" are covers, strictly speaking, but they're both *amazing*. ("Fanfare for the Common Man" is another in the covers collection people will talk up, but I get a bit lost in the weeds on the long version.) "Trilogy" and "The Endless Enigma" (all three parts, around 10 minutes total) are good longer pieces - and you've survived "Pirates," so I think you'd be up for the challenges of "Tarkus" or "Karn Evil 9."

They didn't release this as a single, because Palmer didn't perform on it. My guess is that he needed a couple of minutes with an oxygen mask after finishing Toccata. The thing that strikes me about this song is that, while it only pretends to be a love song; it's every bit as cold and metallic as everything else on this album.

You are so correct, ELP are so far ahead of other bands, and they are in their own category of music. No other band, including YES, GENESIS, RUSH, nor PINK FLOYD, come close to the musical talent that ELP had.

ELP is a great band, many songs you will enjoy. Carl Palmer is one of the best drummers I ever saw live! I enjoy hearing your take as a drummer yourself! The best drummer I ever saw was probably Billy Cobham, not sure if you are familiar with him, but you will love his style. Played progressive jazz as we called it back in the 70s. Check him out, you won't be disappointed! Keep up the great work!

So I guess by now you know that you got the title wrong. It's "turn me on" not "turn on me". My introduction to ELP was in 74 when my cousins came back from the Calif Jam talking about a 'flying Piano' and brought the Brain Salad Surgery album over to listen to. I could not believe what I was hearing. Every song on the album was unbelievable. I and others have long considered Keith the G.O.A.T. of keyboards. There are videos of him playing a wide range of genres as well as the fact that he wrote music which included for movies. Video from the Jam is complicated because some of it is audio from a different concert and some of it is the actual live performance. That would include the video Great gates of Kiev where Keith gets on his 'Flying Piano' and goes up in the air and it spins head over heals. My ring tone is the 2nd Impression of Karn Evil Nine. As far as I know there is only audio of the full Karn Evil Nine live in concert. BTW My cousins were the fire bugs up front and likely the ones you can see after Greg performs an acoustic solo version of "Still...You Turn Me On" at the jam. And that iconic drum set of Carl's. Google it. You can really see the workout he gets in the videos of Karn Evil Nine from the Jam. One other thing - Keith was known as the Jimi Hendrix of the organ and you can see why in the KZbin video (Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Rondo Live in Zurich 1970 [HD]) Greg also wrote music for movies including Harry Potter.

There was a time when I was the only ELP fan, but it was also true for Pink Floyd, Genesis, Strawbs, and most of the progressive bands, in large part because they were playing for posterity, and not just for quick financial gain, and so, having studied music, and having been exposed to classical music, I immediately latched onto it, and sought out similar bands with similar visions. So as a deep and early fan, let me assure you that there are very many better songs than this one. The most exuberant one is probably their live album, "Welcome Back My Friends", which has a killer version of Aquatarkus. The Mussorgsky is also a wonder of the world (PAAE). And the Copland. And Ginastera. Pirates too. Peace and love. db
