I first knew them from a summer concert series in the old chapel at Bard College in the early eighties. It was demonically hot. They came out, played the first movement, stopped, put down their instruments, rose, the violinist said, "Gentlemen --" and every man in the house rose, took off his jacket, and resettled for a superb concert. Of course, this was back when men wore tie and jacket to concerts. They're so young here!

Celebrating The Emerson String Quartet in this their final and Farewell Season! Remembering epic nights of music in Mead Chapel of Middlebury College, when you (and H.C. Robbins-Landon) were In Residence. Thank you each and all most profoundly for those memories and all the glorious performances of all the greatest composers masterworks in the decades since then. I sadly cannot attend make your upcoming last/return concert at the College in person, but here are my roses and bouquets anyway... 🌹🌹🌹🌹💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐♾️ Andrea Wallenberger ('85)

Wonderful. I discovered this piece of music aged 69. I wish I had explored Mozart's string quartets earlier in my life.

I've just discovered it, too, and I'm 67! Perhaps we wouldn't have appreciated it as much earlier in our lives? Have you also discovered the wonderful Horn Quintet K407 and the Wind Serenade K375 ... ?
