These shoulder pieces with a weird hinge do look like a classic door wings when flared out. With white piece being a "door" part and the black one being a "window". Maybe this was the intent behind the hinges?

Not sure if you have figured out where the batons go in robot mode but if you look at the figure head on there are the shoulder pads. On the shoulder pads there are two arrow stickers, looking inwards you will see two tiny studs. Bend the batons and pop the butt ends into the studs. They look like nice detailing and are out of the way.

Huh. Coming back to an older video for some help deciding on a 3rd party purchase, and the lack of music is jarring. Pretty funny considering I didn't think it was necessary when it first started appearing in videos. So hey, good call on adding music!
