This is my favorite of the Wave. Topspin is probably better, but he's too generic of a robot for my tastes. Preceptor is also pretty cool. This is awesome, though. No backpack, a great transformation, cool weapon storage, and two good modes.

Great review bro!!! I loved the skit and the nod to the G1 movie. I like the colors on him and I think the transformation is interesting and the Alt mode definitely looks a lot like his G1 self. However your correct about him being slightly off. For me it's only in robot mode and I think the face is off and maybe the body is a little to thin. Thanks again and keep up the great work...

So I got the Movie Advanced Age of Extinction Black Knight Optimus Prime for my birthday. I just decided to do that little mod where you take out the pin allowing you to remove the backpack. He looks so much better without it.

I remember when the gimmick was that they were TRANSFORMERS. And they were ROBOTS IN DISGUISE. That was enough for us in the 1980s. The idea that perhaps your Moms car was secretly an alien robot was thrilling and intriguing to us kids. Nowadays with the interwebs and your Kendal Jenner every new line of Transformers has to have a new gimmick. Sheesh.

For some reason I thought that this Kup would be smaller than RTS Kup. but TR version might be a couple cm's taller. It's just the colors that put me off. Guess we'll see what Takara's version has to offer whenever that shows up.

What's interesting about this guy is that his transformation is so clean that you end up with a very generic-looking humanoid robot. There's no kibble, but there's nothing to give him character either. Reminds us that what makes Transformers cool is that they're visibly robots MADE OUT OF CARS (or planes or monkeys or whatever). There's essentially nothing on this toy that looks like part of a car. So in a sense, he succeeds so well that he's a failure. :-/

I like the mold, it works nicely, but my main beef with TR Kup is the colour scheme. Hasbro's insistence on G1 toy accuracy colour schemes doesn't mesh with this figure. The cartoon scheme would work much better.
