here's the story; the girl and the dad were in one car and they were in a car accident but the girl got injured but the dad survived so the doctors said the girl can survive but, with a transplant and the dad knew he would die giving her the transplant and so he did and the boat which was the death boat. As you saw the girl was about to go in which meant she was about to die but her dad comes and he goes into the boat which meant he gave her his organs or whatever got damaged in her and now the dad is dead and his daughter lives.

For those who didn't understand: The father and daughter got in a car crash. The room they were in was the place you go when you're on the edge of living and dying. The dad was being walked with by the nurse because he was getting better, and was going to live. However, he saw is daughter dying (her chasing the cat). The boat itself was death. That's why the inside was so bright. Her dad went into the light so his daughter wouldn't have to. Her dad sacrificed himself so she could live.

For the confused people:: Father and daughter were in a car crash. The woman in the suit was basically Life, trying to get the father back to his body and all, while the daughter was supposed to be the one to meet Death, the guy who was on the ship. The father saw his daughter making her journey to the afterlife, and he pulled away from Life and went after his daughter, then eventually traded his own life for his daughters. He couldn't live without his daughter by his side, since she was his joy, as shown by the flashbacks. Plus, she had her whole life ahead of her. So her father went with Death while the daughter went back with Life, where she finds out her father is dead in the hospital. The End.

I think I understand this. Emi and her dad were going for a drive on her birthday (I assume because of the present). The dad wasn't paying attention and they got in car accident. They were both nearly dead when they reached the hospital. The cat came to Emi in the other world and led her to the waters edge, where the ferry and Death came to take her to the underworld. The father didn't want his daughter to die yet, so he took her place because, we all know that when Death comes, he won't leave until he gets a soul. He entered the ferry with Death and left for the underworld. Emi lived after that and grew to be a strong young woman, or something like that. I'm not quite sure what the nurse, butterfly, and cat were supposed to represent.

The woman represents life, seen in how she's a nurse in the real world and how there is a scene in which the father escapes the woman's grasp to go after his daughter, even barring her from entering the elevator with him. The father separating from the woman can symbolize how much more he values his daughter's life over his own. The butterfly also represents life, seeing as how the cat jumps after it.

I agree with you. To me I feel like the nurse is a symbol of an angle of life or some type of guide as we see her leading first the father then Emi to the "real world". The butterfly a symbol of life due to the fact that it was white also when catipillars become butterflies it almost like a rebirth or resurrection if you will. As we watch the cat swat it away it was as if death was swatting away life. The cat I believe is a symbol for the after life. I drew this conclusion because the cat has an earring such as the cats in Egyptian culture which we all know believes in the after life. Now this is just what I think they mean I could be totally wrong.

If anyone wants to know this is exactly what happened (based off the video): The girl and her dad were in a car accident, and the girl almost died (near death experience) the whole video was a representation like The butterfly meaning life and the cat meaning death. The boat and the guy with the glasses represented the grim reaper taker her to Judgement. But her dad saved her life which meant he died (that is why you saw his cloths at the end of the video) also when you saw him look sad before boarding the boat he was sad for leaving his Daughter. The nurse was with her all the time that's why she was in the representation. Hope this helped!

Something similar happened to me, my papa died of a sudden severe stroke when I was 9, and my brother was almost 1. I have made a promise to my mom that, when the time was right, I would tell my brother about papa. Every day I wish that he was still with me, since he was like a second father to me when he was alive. Now, four years later, I think it is almost time to tell my brother about the kind, brave man I call papa. 😥

She needs a transplant, or something along those lines to live, and the father will die if he gives her his. The big area they're in is the station between life and death. So I suppose they're both in comas, or coma-like states. The woman with the dad is his angel, the cat is Emi's angel. The dad could have left Emi and go on to live, judging by the way the woman (or angel) was tugging on him to go. The cat was going to lead her to the way to death. So the dad takes her place and gives her life, the gift. The man driving the boat is God, or whatever you'd like to call Him. If she had gotten on that boat, she would have been taken from the Earth plane. The door the woman was trying to lead dad to was the way to the Earth plane. The dad took her place to save her from death. The box is life. . . . . Did I do okay? Just a silly American trying to interpret this French work of genius.

The girl followed the cat witch represents illness and led her to death. When the father sees his daughter, he ran after her to give her his life. One had to die (go on the boat) and one had to live (follow the nurse) The father chose death. This shows that you must love your loved ones because they can die any given moment.

Guys, the woman wasn't an angel. That was the girl's mother, perhaps representing the angel at the "port." Story- The father and the daughter were in a car crash. The father was supposed to live, but he did something, such as maybe turning the car so he would be hit harder than her at the last second or choosing to give up undamaged organs that she may have needed, etc, that caused him to die in his daughter's stead, saving her life. The woman, like I said, was the girl's mother, who was representing an angel at the port of death (which represented some sort of death waiting room). The surgeon-looking man and the cat were representative of some mythical grim reapers or gate keepers to the afterlife. The gift the father bought his daughter turned out to be the gift of life.

This is a beautiful film which means so much to me. My brother was diagnosed with PKD, Polycystic Kidney Disease. There is no cure except for a kidney transplant. Years ago when he was diagnosed the medical community thought that it was hereditary and it did not skip a generation so they had to do an emergency test on me to make sure I was okay. I was. I was 26 years old at the time and my brother was 3 years older than me. I was tested every year after that and still I did not get PKD. Then the medical community stated that if you do not get it by the time you are 40 years of age then you will never get it and it indeed did skip me, thankfully. When my mom called me to tell me that my brother's kidney's have failed and they were performing emergency dialysis I told her not to worry that I would donate a kidney to him...not knowing if this was even possible, somehow I felt it would happen. On July 15, 2014 I was in a kidney Paired donation Program at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta since my brother and I were not a match. Since I was AB Negative, which is a rare blood type, that pulled in an extra couple to swap with. On the same day there were 3 donors and 3 recipients swapping for family and loved ones. My kidney was flown from Atlanta to Mass General in Boston. My brother's kidney came from Tufts Medical center in Boston and the other pair swapped between Mass general and Tuft's medical center. I can honestly say it was the most joyful experience of my life and if I could do it all over again and magically grow another kidney I would donate in a heartbeat. If anyone here has watched this film and felt the tug at their heart to become a living kidney donor and would like to chat with me or just to ask questions, please feel free. I am happy to share my experience. Thank you for making this amazing film.

I think that the place the father and daughter are in purgatory or like a waiting room for the dead. The boat resembles death. The daughter was killed In the car accident and the father survived. That's why the girl is being guided from purgatory to the death boat by the cat Mau who is an Egyptian god that resembles death and father is being guided by the woman who is an angel who is guiding him back to life. So when the father gets on the boat he is sacrificing him self to save the daughter. In other words the traded places.

I feel that this video had a few allusions from both Greek and Egyptian mythology. First off, the cat, who is representative of Anubis. When the cat sits still in some of the scenes, you can see a distinct jackal shape, paying homage to Anubis's jackal head. Also, Anubis is the one who ferries people to the underworld, and determines who s allowed to enter the underworld, which is shown by the cat leading the girl (emi) to the river, and eventually entering the boat with the man. The boat and the river could represent the river of Styx and the boatman in Greek mythology, where an impassable river separates the living from the dead, and can only be crossed by a boat.

I finally found it. I recall watching this video on the last day of either 2013 or 2014. It made me cry when I first watched. Now, eight to nine and a half years later, it still makes me cry. (I found this via the "I'm a pebble" otter animation they did. So glad I did!)

Explanation of the plot from me: It's the little girl - Emi that was to die, but her Father choose to sacrifice his life so that hers would be safe. More generally: one's sacrifice (here literally shown but it may be understood in multiple ways) gives life (chances of evolving) to other people.

I believe that the story was that they both got into an accident, and the father chose to die for her so she could live, probably by donating an organ. The little green present he gave her may have symbolized the gift of life. The man and the boat and cat were "death", and the woman was the nurse who helped keep the girl from boarding the boat, aka dying.

My Dad died when I was 16. My mother abused us all, but she abused our father to the point where he felt it wasn't worth living. Virtually all us children (except my 2 youngest half brothers) to the point where at various points in our lives, we feel like that.... I think, only God saves us (not anyone else in this conversation, but me and my 3 brothers) from acting out how we feel! We have come close... But we are stupill traumatised from that, and the impact it made on our future choices...

So to all of those who don't understand, this is how I think it goes. The girl had a birthday and her dad was driving her somewhere. They get into an accident and go into coma. The cat in the story as I understand, is probably from Egyptian mythology where they guided and protected dead spirits. The boat is the afterlife and the father takes her place and she wakes up while he perishes. Very crude explanation, since I don't feel like writing a novel about it.

One of my biggest fears is a sudden death and it didn't occur to me how that could be until 2 years ago. My father died at work. He was on a cherry picker (he was a contractor) and hit electrical wires. He was fried to death. I want to live a life with fun and adventure so if I do end up like my father, I can be satisfied with my life. But, I'm scared of my grandma (who I live with for the time being)who holds me back and makes me miserable every second of my life. I'm not bad at all. She hates teenagers. She likes babies and toddlers. I am too scared to even cross the street without her yelling at me. I get punished for looking ugly in public...help me. Please someone give me advice.

i am so sorry to hear this. i cant imagine what you are going through. i don't know how helpful this is but i do know that human nature is to develop from the negatives. i know that sounds like some cheesy quote form a low budget movie but what I'm trying to say is that one day you will be stronger from this absolutely horrible experience. as for your grandmother, it is important to let your grandmother know how you feel. and if she is not interested in listening to you, then why should you listen to her?!?! also remember that if your will is strong enough nothing can get you down. again i am so sorry for your loss and i could not begin to imagine what you are going through. and i hope you can find a simple solution to your problem with your grandmother.

En effet, je pense que les personnes qui n'ont pas compris c'est simplement qu'il ne connaissent pas la signification d'une EMI. Car en réalité je trouve que c'est plutôt claire. Ils nous on évidemment montré le chemin vers la mort mais sous une autre forme que se qu'ont peut voir habituellement, voilà tout. En tout cas bon travail comme à chaque fois ;-)..

Story - Both the daughter and the father were in a car crash, the daughter was meant to die but the father had the gift of life and he gave it to his daughter, which, physically, meant that he gave her the needed organs from his own body. My teacher recently showed this video and said to the class what what it was about. The cat is the messenger and the creepy dude is an angel. The cat leads emi to the boat to leave to heaven. The dad sees her. And runs to her. Then he sacrifices himself for Emi. When he leaves the boat it means he died and went to heaven. When Emi was taken to the door it meant she was brung back to reality. The present was life. The present gave Emi to life.. I forgot why they died but all I know for sure right now she said they were battling..death..?

What I gathered (I haven't looked at any comments yet, so don't say I'm copying), is that Emi had a birthday, and her and her father were driving to the hospital to pick up the mother. They got into a car accident, causing the father to die and Emi to almost die. The butterfly could represent an angel, and the cat could be like the grim reaper, to take dead souls to the afterlife. The hospital-type place we see for the majority of the video could be like Purgatory. However, the man on the boat could either be Satan, Lucifer, or the grim reaper. That's what I think has happened.

So, for those who didn't understand, here's my interpretation: the girl and her father get in a car accident, and are both on the verge of death - thus in the station-like place, wich symbolizes the gateway to death. The girl is going to die, that's why she is led by a cat - wich represent death in many cultures - to the Boat of Death: she leaves for the World of Dead (about the weird surgeon, I don't know... maybe it's the one who tries to save them after the accident, because you know, surgeons deal with the lives of their patients, and stuff). The dad is going to survive, that's why he is led back to the Land of the Living by the nurse (the wooden door); but when he sees his daughter about to die, he sacrifices himself and get in the boat for her to live - a soul for a soul. Thus, when she wakes up, everyone thinks she had an Expérience de Mort Imminente ( a Near-Death Experiment - it's what's written on her file at the end of the video), while everything that happened in the station - the In-Between World - was "real". AND IT'S SO DAMN SAAAAAD!!!! Q.Q
