Emigrant Wilderness // September 11-13 2023

It has been an odd year in the backcountry. Record snowfall and the lingering snowpack pushed the usual seasons back- early season trips, peak season, monsoon season, mosquito and wildflower seasons were all pretty whacky.
Combine that with personal and logistical struggles-with peak season madness in Yosemite Valley, road closures due to winter storm damage, to new physical ailments- and 2023 was a challenge!
Which is what made this trip extra special. Three days looping through new terrain-it was my first trip in Emigrant-and having it all to myself for the most part was such a treat. The 'loop' ended up being a 32mi. out and back, for reasons you'll hear in the video, however all of them were great.
So glad to have gotten out there.

Really good video dude! Like how you have the main body of your footage just with music (that's my style) and then have hiking commentary afterwards. Might try that in future. We were in Emigrant Wilderness just after you, absolutely beautiful out there. We did do a loop that was a similar distance to yours. When you get to Deer Lake you hang a left and you can loop back around to Crabtree trailhead via Chewing Gum lake, passing through a couple of really cool Alpine Meadows. Would definitely recommend that for you if you go back in future. Happy Hiking buddy!
