If, when, & how I ever get near this gentlemen - I will have him make me a true suit. Watched all the videos on what he does and to say I have a great deal of respect for what he does is an understatement!

spot on with the engineer vs architecture analogy. As i am an engineer who is switching to fashion design. You need the two.

Canvassing is the first indication of a quality suit. Cheap suits and in fact many designer suits selling for over $1,000 are fused, meaning they outer shell is actually glued to the lining. Fused suits do not drape well, nor do they conform to the shape of the wearer. They also can bubble after dry cleaning.

There is a comfortable middle ground thats the designers job. Because a designer created the suit for all the tailors to master just that basic style. Without a designer there would be no job for the tailors.

Classic versus "trendy"? Does the person wear the suit or the suit wear the person? It seems to me to be all about respect. Respect for craft, respect for a true craftsperson, and respect for oneself.

what I would pay to have this gentleman build me a completely new wardrobe of suits... i have been to numerous places and they all end up just being "chop shops"

I met this wonderful gentleman today on my daily walk downtown. I stopped by to get a pair of pants hemmed - instead I ended making an appointment to have Emile make me a custom suit. I suspect a custom made suit is going to be a thing of the past. Young people today have no desire to learn the art of tailoring.

Emil, unfortunately, represents the last of a dying breed of artisans and craftsmen that contributed so much to the appearance of well-bred gentlemen of a bygone era. Today's suits, made is such a hurry and without consideration for true quality, are paste when compared to well-made suits of the past. An interesting side note that I'd like to share is the fact that my father was a tailor in the original mold of Eastern and Western Europe (Poland and France) and was captured by the Nazis when he was a teenager. Fortunately, his father had taught him the fine art of tailoring and it was that skill that literally saved his life when he was sent to a concentration camp during WW2. Had he not used that skill to make and alter German uniforms for the Third Reich, I am certain that he would have quickly been sent to the gas chamber to meet his fate. Others, without tangible skills that were of practical use to the Germans, were quickly eliminated or else died while engaging in slave labor until they collapsed. He was freed in 1944 and eventually moved to the United States and worked as a tailor and drycleaner (owned a cleaning plant) for the next 45 years. Tailoring may have gone out of style, but it certainly explains why I am here and able to write this note today.
