This is the first time I have ever heard of Emily Bear. I have to say, having this amazing child on her show was the greatest thing Ellen has ever done in her life. A natural born talent, a passion to play music, a supportive family, and an opprotunity are what makes someone a prodigy like this. Many amazing musicians have many of these traits, but few, like emily, have them all. This makes me smile, thank you for sharing this.

my names emily also. I've been playing piano sense I was 2 but never had a teacher or was abel to do what she dose. I keep trying to get better and hope to be as good as her I play all by ear and learn all I know by ear but I'm finally going to have a piano teach soon after 12 years on my own of teaching my self and going to play for my church praise team this girl has such a gift its incredible never stop playing emily your a very special lady god bless you.

Absolutely phenomenal, isn't she? Obviously, at six years old, her hands were so tiny that her playing range was limited, but five years later when Quincy Jones introduced her at the Montreal Jazz Fest she was outstanding! And then when she was 13 and performing at the 2014 Stuttgart Jazz Fest she was unbelievable. I only wish I had been there to see it live. *_{:-) R._*

oh my god. I still can't believe this girl.. this is the 2nd video of her I've seen. At that age.. such pure unbridled musical talent. If there is anyone that believes that music cannot bring pure unadulterated joy, they need to watch this girl. She's also unbelievably cute! I really hope with all my heart that she does not get corrupted and demolished by the music and media industry.

Lessons were not forced on her. Her parents left their kids with grandma who happens to be a pianist and grandma said she heard someone playing the piano and thought it was the oldest kid playing. Turned out it was 3 year old emily playing. Shes a prodigy. Music is pouring from this childs soul. Its beautiful.

My first thought when hearing of Emily Bear was "Is that what she wants? Is it not the parents pushing too hard, like with so many others?". Seeing a few videos with her, it quickly becomes clear that isn't the case. She's got such a rare enthusiasm. She plays jazz, which the pushy kind of parents would most likely have discouraged and the way she writes her own pieces.. I can't see that, combined with her happiness when she plays them, happening if she didn't just love it. Wonderful to see.

In 2015, she won an ASCAP Foundation Morton Gould Young Composer Award for her orchestral piece "Les Voyages". Over the years I have seen several talented people. I have seen a lot of young children that play beyond their years, but not to the point that they can out play most adults. And at the embarrassing age of 6. It's all in the brain and the hands. If you have good wiring in the brain and good dextarity you get Emily Bear. She's outstanding!

To me, talent is something a person can do that normally other people can't do. Some people can bend their bodies like a pretzel. Some people can sing like angels. This 6 year-old girl can play Mozart. To the people who say she ISN'T talented, let me see you play Mozart. And if you can play it, try playing it when you were 6, or try teaching a 6 year-old to play Mozart. It's nearly impossible! Emily has inspired me to take up piano lessons again; not that I aspire to be a concert pianist or what. I just want to learn how to read music again and use it in the service of God in my small community. Gosh! Music is such a good thing for the soul. :)
