Joran was beaten to a pulp in a Peruvian prison just recently. He is being extradited. He should be landing in Alabama tomorrow. Yeah, he killed Stephany Flores Ramirez back in 2010. Five years to the day after Natalee Holloway when missing. He was charged and convicted of first-degree murder. He got 28 years. He also received another 18 years attached because he was running a drug operation in Prison. Also on Monday I think van der Sloot changed his mind, and wanted to remain where he was. Now, I don't know that for sure, but that's what I'd heard and his lawyer tried to fight his extradition but it went before the appellate court and it got shot down so as far as I know he's still being extradited to the states.

Honestly, though, if I owned a house where someone said they buried a body I’d look into what can be done non-destructively to determine if she was there. Replay crew. I remember this case and my heart still hurts for the Holloway family. I am definitely interested in following what happens with this case. I hope he does get extradited here and has to answer for his lies. That handwritten motion was something else! Wow 😲 Thank you Emily for covering this.

Even though this is not part of the extortion case, my only suggestion would be to mention that there are other parents who have and still suffer the loss of their daughter Stephanie. It is barely acknowledged. It is the reason why Joran is in a Peruvian jail, had he not committed this crime but still extorted the Holloway family, he'd still be enjoying life as a free man. I understand that not even being able to bury your family member is extra tragic, but still 1 second of acknowledgement to the Flores family wouldn't hurt

I followed since the beginning when Natalee went missing, watched the trial where he was convicted of killing Stephanie, and was aware of his extortion of Beth; so, totally invested here- thanks for covering this. 💜

I remember the original disappearance of Natalie Holloway. I think Court TV covered it every day/all day for months. I’ve also followed some updates throughout the years too.

I first heard of this only through being home one afternoon, and there was one of those day time movies on. It was based on this guy so did a bit of digging into it.

Emily please put any follow-ups on KZbin! I don't use Twitter, Instagram, or any of the other socials - in fact I've deleted most of most of my accounts, followed by the apps. I find it time consuming enough to keep up with KZbin, let alone trying to follow anything else, and I'm certain I'm not the only one. Recently I deleted one creator, who decided to switch his main platform to Twitch. While I've no intention of stopping following your excellent coverage, it's just an example of the frustration I feel after trying to follow various social media platforms - and invariably falling down too many rabbit holes!! I just can't keep up! Thanks, by the way, for your openness about ADHD!! Thanks to you, Runkle, Rob, and now Nicole has ADHD, I'm on my way (if painfully slowly) to a diagnosis, which is a huge bright spot for me, after years of wondering what the hell was wrong with me. The relief is immense, as the more I learn, the more certain I am that it's been something I've been hiding and struggling with my entire life. I know I'm not the only person you guys have helped with this - your open discourse on the subject is helping many find their way out of despair and hopelessness. You're amazing for this, not to mention the other positives you put out into the world!

Speaking of international cases, would love to see Emily's take on the Ridouan Taghi and Inez Weski case. Coincidentally it has some bizarro ties to this case, through the crime reporter Peter de Vries who reported on the Holloway case. He was assassinated in 2021 in relation to the case against Taghi, hearings for which has been held for a few years now at a secure bunker court house in Amsterdam.

I thought that Vander Sloot had murdered a woman in Peru and was in prison for that? The extortion of Natalie's mother is cruel and horrendous. Of course he doesn't want to come to the United States. We have the largest prison population in the world and he'll be sure to be joining it.
@shannap.lawnerd125 Жыл бұрын
Correct, he’s serving time in (& JUST got jumped in) a Peruvian prison. He was additionally charged with running a narcotics ring inside the prison. I personally can’t wait til those big ol Bama boys get ahold of lil Joran. 🤌🏽💋💪🏽⚖️🤓
