Emily. I am very disconcerted by the surprising number of people in the comments who think it’s just fine that his sisters were fired from their jobs for simply sharing the same last name. I thought this community would be more understanding that making more victims out of this horrific case is Not OK! Innocent family members of the victims are suffering so it’s ok that his sisters lose their job?? I’m not going to read any more comments today. Love you, love the people who tried pointing out that two things can be true at the same time, but I’m disturbed by too many of the others I’ve read who think it’s just fine. I get that it’s a big, high profile case, but it’s not for me. I’m with you for many other cases you cover, but not this one. Your comments about the Daily Mail click bait headline being repeated over and over is indicative of what’s seriously wrong with the world.

I am a little suspicious and kind of find that these sisters may not have been fired due to their brother but this is a game being played by the family to garner sympathy. It does not make sense to fire them and if that was the case why are they not suing for unfair dismissal. This man and now his family may be playing mind games with the public and will influence how the jury view him. I want more details about their firing to believe this.

I think it's every human's right to not feel safe around someone and then choose to eliminate them from their atmosphere. Companies need to keep all of their employees safe - not just worry about only 1 employee. Unfortunately nasty humans will threaten Companies and their other employees w/ violence (it ain't right but we all know it happens) just for keeping that 1 that causes the uproar even if it's not their fault at all. Do I feel compassion for the family suffering the consequences of their son/brother's actions 😢 YES absolutely *BUT* I also will not judge or chastise those trying to only protect themselves, their company and ALL of their employees safety and well being by cutting ties with that family. Not sorry - I wouldn't want any interaction with any of them either. Every human has the right to feel safe in their environment and/or workplace
@LK-lz6lk
@LK-lz6lk Жыл бұрын
@@honeybadger3570 You're right about keeping employees safe - but, that should include an employee who's done nothing wrong. Take (legal) action against the one doing wrong, the person(s) making threats - not punish the innocent. Only would deter employees from notifying their employer of a potential threat (ex, stalker etc.) if fear of losing their job for doing so. That sure doesn't help keep anyone safe. Plus, giving the one making threats what they want, only encourages more of it. I understand your POV tho just not so sure it's the proper & fair solution.✌️

I’m an industrial organizational psychologist and former journalist. I have to say that it baffles and appalls me that there is so much work that needs to be done to legally protect workers. As you said, he is innocent as of right now and his family has nothing to do with this. Also, even if his sisters were fired if he had been found guilty, that’s still wrong. They are their own people. I feel for his family. As for this stuff being reported on in the media. It crosses the boundaries of ethical journalism. I quickly left the field and went the psychology route. This information should’ve never been reported on, especially since they know there’s a gag order. I absolutely agree with you but I think the main problem here is the silence the court has forced upon everyone involved. A judge cannot shut down the court of public opinion and I find it extremely arrogant of this judge to think that she can. However, you can influence _what_ people say and how they say it. Ordering silence leaves an empty space that will always be filled with speculation. The circus of garbage that the media has created around this case is in large part due to the extreme use of duct tape by the judge. I would like to see judges urge everyone to engage in balanced reporting, remind the media that the headlines they print will directly impact the transparency of the court proceedings, etc.

Yes, and the leaks aren’t anything that he or his team can respond to and rebut (not that it would help much) due to the gag order. So the unconfirmed information is very skewed against him, and people can’t assess whether it’s because he did it or because that’s the information available right now. It’s important for people to be tried in court, and while the public has a right to their opinions (which I often have) that doesn’t mean the media is right to take advantage of this situation.

That is what started the whole conflict of interest drama with Brian Kohberger’s attorney. Xana’s mom was in no condition to be interviewed and the producers should have seen that. Hi! First time watching & now am the proud owner of a subscription & all notifications of the “Emily D. Baker” show. I used to be & am somewhat still, a journalist. I did print & was a news director for radio news. All of my stories & the stories of the reporters I worked with, ALWAYS had to have THREE credible sources. Sometimes it was pretty difficult, but ABSOLUTELY NOTHING went on the air w/o 3 sources & even those were looked up & down & sideways for anything that just didn’t jive. Of course, this was all before Google, FB, Twitter etc. We had to really work hard to get our stories. In today’s world, it’s been made too easy to ‘source’ a story with nothing to back it up. That’s why I don’t go down the rabbit hole of news shows…even local news. That’s why shows like yours is so refreshing! In my opinion.

Thank you for covering this case. I live in Idaho, actually Ada County where the Lori Vallow’s trial is being held. That case was moved to Ada County and they have a bigger population in Rexburg than they do in Moscow. Anyway I just want to say thank you for trying to protect the jury. As you say he is innocent until proven guilty and deserves an impartial jury.

Emily I was happy to see you discuss the Idaho case. There are so many questions about this case and things the police In Moscow. I’ve never seen a case where they write up 3 prob cause affidavits. Lots of copy and pasting from a few of the cops. Cops on the case with Brady/Giglio issues. I’m really bothered by Investigation Discovery doing a show on this case, 48 hours the same, and if memory serves me 20/20 as well. So many questions about things in this case. It seems most have forgotten how our law system works. He is supposed to be afforded the presumption of innocence until proven guilty in a court of law. This man has been convicted by media. He has been called an incel, a mass murderer more times than I could count. I want justice for these beautiful lives that have been snuffed out. But, I also want a good trial and the right person prosecuted. It’s a lot with this case.

I find it deeply troubling, that this is the path we are on, how can BK's sisters be held responsible for HIS "alledged" crime. How are they supposed to pay bills if they can't work, it's just not right, those poor girls. Buster M is a different case entierly Buster may not have clean hands, though nothing so far has been proven. I find it very concerning if this is true, we as decent people need to stand up for any injustice and for the TRUTH. They have done nothing, and should be left alone. As for the Laundries.... I really have nothing to say about them except their actions were at least questionable at most dispicable, the case against them will decide that.

The ‘Idaho Four’ bothered me right from the start. It implies they did something, the only thing they did was live. It should be called the Idaho College murders. That’s what it was. Maybe calling it the ‘Idaho Four’ sanitizes it so people wouldn’t (and youtube) be offended. Or someone wants a cool name name for clicks. Create a Brand as it were. Your video is the first one I’ve watched in a while. I found the rabid true crime community disgusting making up scenarios, blaming surviving residents, creating nasty rumors like they were dealing narcotics. True crime should stick to cold cases.

Thank you, Emily, for calling out News Nation. I have had a lot of questions about their headlines and sources for some time. With the non dissemination order in place, I have seriously questioned just how in the hell News Nation is able to scoop every other news oulet and I question the source. I get they can't name them due to the order, but it happens too often with them. Are they paying someone off to get info? Just HOW are they getting information that many times no one else has. So many questions.

I think they just have lower (virtually none) requirements to report. Most news organizations have standards to verify info and won't release it if it's only from one source etc. NN lost me when they interviewed the mom of one of the Idaho victims. She is dealing with the unimaginable tragedy of her child’s murder and may be struggling with an addiction issue. Zero care or sensitivity for her. Please unsubscribe to NN everyone! Giving them views encourages more irresponsible reporting.

These too are things I have noted. Also, they seem over reliant on podcasters and KZbin content creators who don't have any credentials other than hosting a show for their contributors and they put them on like they are authorities on whatever the topic is. I will note that this seems to be mostly on Banfield's segments. The whole vibe there is just odd.

Great show as always Emily! The problem with keeping people in the dark is that it suddenly becomes much more interesting and people start making it worse in their minds. News Nation has tapped into that. Some of the things they have reported have been found out to be blatantly false. I actually cringe now when I hear that Ashley Banfield has a new “source “ that’s found something. One day they reported that people were praying outside the house they were so desperate to report something. As for investigating BK in the case of any serious homicide it’s not unusual for the police to check if that person may have done something similar before. I watch retired cops on YT who do true crime like DutyRon and they have all said it’s normal procedure. It’s just not something you report to the papers but they are so desperately scrambling they are reporting the most obvious things and making it into a big deal. And maybe it is because if multiple IDs were found in a glove in a box and they potentially belonged to victims or people he was stalking it could be a big deal so everything needs to be checked it only makes sense. At the very least his behaviour is weird. It obviously wasn’t his old IDs in the glove or the police wouldn’t have grabbed it. I don’t know who’s it was but at this stage I take everything that News Nation says with a grain of salt. I’ve pretty much lost all respect I had for them since this case. Sorry for the long ramble but they annoy me soooo much.

I mean my grandmother kept ID info stuffed up the bottom of an angel statue because she was paranoid people were going to break in and steal it. And I’ve stuffed small things in a glove before when trying not to lose them in a big or loose coat pocket. It doesn’t feel like the location means anything - the question should just be whose ID and was there a reason for it to be in the house/car 🤷🏼‍♀️

The question to be asked is: Is the leaked information true? If he in fact DID have an ID card from one of the residents of that house at his parents' house then that fact SHOULD be admissible in court. And the defense should have to come up with an explanation backed up by reliable witness testimony as to why that ID card was where it was. At this point in time, he's entitled to the presumption of innocence, yes. What he is NOT entitled to (or IMO SHOULDN'T be entitled to) is to have evidence against him suppressed merely on account of premature leaks. But then again, I'm no lawyer and it's just... I don't know. This society just seems to be getting more and more f- - -ed up each day.
