What I recall most was confusion, peer pressure, self-consciousness, career disappointment/stress, and frustration at not having been able to find the girlfriend of my dreams (and fantasies) and have a mutually enriching, serious, long-term intimate relationship (and potential marriage).

Good points, most of them. 8) Yawn is actually sign of interest, as brain needs additional air cooling to keep temperature down for processing information, eg at least youre trying to be interested. Exercise gets harder because body functionality decreases(same with alcohol, hangovers becoming more brutal as well). In 20s its couple of days to recover, in 30s it can take 3-4+ easy . *sigh* Men are weird ?!?! Look, whos talking. 8) And goals and knowing what you want... go get em, girl ! Personal view - maturity consists of two things: having your own informed opinion, instead of relying on opinions of others and being willing to take responsibility for your own life, instead of letting others to dictate it for you. Rest is just bullshit. One of keypoints of what i learned by the time i hit 30 is that people fear people. We fear anything we dont understand in general, but this is actually useful. Once you realized(and actually accept) that they fear you as much as you fear them, you stop being afraid, as information is power. Another thing is that there is no point in dwelling in the past. Yeah, would be nice to do thins and this and this and this differently. But then again, if you did all those things differently, your life would be different and you would feel sorry for a whole another pile of events. Perfection is a myth. Learn from past, live in the present and look into the future.

This knowledge is so important, I'm still grateful to the old woman (now she's late) that she taught me that.

I'm not 30 I'm 25. Although, I must say I have learned half of things you've reviewed in the video. Still living with my siblings, have already graduated from the university, still trying to understand life not so much from the intimate aspect to the logical end of things has been tedious. One, my parents are a bit hard headed and provincial. I've learned that even when you do in fact listen to your parents you don't exactly find success as opposed to taking risks and actually growing? On the other hand, I've learned a thing or two about saving up. I have never had an actual part time but through having a large extended family, I have managed to save up and I can actually by a used or new car. I've also learned that making sacrifices for your siblings doesn't always bring a rewarding outcome in ones life, especially when I've received the short end of the stick for the passed 6 yrs. I've also learned that happiness is found and accepted within, regardless of religion, people you meet and experiences. I've also learned that finding the one for you is harder then one thinks because getting to know one person takes an actual lifetime (including oneself lol) so it technically is a suicide mission to accept that vague reality. So, I've also learned staying single is loads of fun. Although sometimes I do want a pet.

I learned at 30 that "adult asthma" is not a real diagnosis. Sometimes those breathing disorders that come on suddenly and hospitalize you are temporary. Just move out of that pollution and start life again and most importantly do not use your new inhalers every other hour or whatever. Why do nurses make us think we need to accept a life sentence commitment to a new problem? I tried my best to admit that I knew it was a condition that would one day pass. Hospitals are great for the ER to help and all and of course I had to go and spend the night bc I could not breathe anymore. Yet today I am 20 + years older and never needed those inhalers once I moved out of the polluted city. Take the advice of the doctor sure and then expand on it by using good judgement or intuition. They made me sign up for Adult Asthma classes before they allowed me to leave my bed and go home. Oh, and the treatment inhaler mask they make you wear will tire you out by speeding up your heart rate to like 200 cups worth of coffee and then they hand you a clipboard to sign forms and you won't be able to control your jitters. You will vomit hours later from the mask, trust me, the medicine goes into your sinus and brain and it's all you can taste or think about. On an empty stomach all night, it was sheer misery to smell that funk and I finally vomited it all when I got home. Hey I love your take on things Emily and thanks for your webpages. I really laugh and agree with ya! What a fun bunch of people to get involved with. Makes being a Brit look so fun!!!

I just turned 30 and here is what i realized. it gets too late, too soon. That was the truth, the reality, a fact, though negative. If you want a more positive one, think of it this way, hurtful surprises from when you were younger, like a closure to a relationship, or being cheated on, or the girl you have feelings for just doesnt feel the same, or she leaves you for reasons she only understands, etc etc ... are just surprises now. (aka not hurtful as much). so yeah, at least those life events spot tasting bitter, or you are grown more tolerant. This is inherently and naturally a good thing though sad. idk which one of the below is worse: 1) to see a relationship die 2) to not care if a relationship died

Things I've learned: 1. The older I get the easier it is to get injured from doing things my body can no longer handle. For example - no more playing aggressive volleyball like I did when I was in my 20s. (Going for digs and eating the floor with my knees...) 2. It's ok to ask for help. Just ask from those you trust. 3. It isn't a big deal not getting that invite to the event that others are going to. 4. Other people can't make me happy. Only I can do that. 5. The real reason I was envious of successful people was I was afraid to try to succeed for I was terrified of failing. Fuck that! I'm now of the mindset - nothing ventured, nothing gained. I want to gain!!! 6. The world does NOT owe me anything. It only cares about what it can get from me. 7. When it comes to friends - I'm interested in a person's character, not the gender.

I remember 8/24/98. I turned 30 a couple days after arriving to Beijing to teach: my new employer prepared a cake and everything. I'd been teaching for 3 years, but that was my first full-time contract: 300 USD a month and the money was plenty for me. I divorced 2 years later. I learned not to be married to someone who treated me poorly. Kindness is key as you said. I didn't want to be treated like a dog all my life.

Nice one, Emily! You're absolutely right about the medication. I'm bipolar. If I had taken the Lithium, which I was once prescribed for to "enable me to deal with that condition"' I would be a mere shadow of the person I currently am. Medication is good for Big Pharma and the people who have shares in it. It is often not all that good for the people who are being medicated. I like your attitude to haters, too. I'm referring to point 24, "Life continues to feel like school at thirty ..." As you say, the haters will always be around. After a certain age it becomes much easier to ignore them. This is, in part, because it becomes increasingly apparent that the people doing the hating are usually the people with the problem. For example, people who have never made a success of anything in their entire lives will be the first to lash out at those who have.

At 30 I thought everything was going to kill me. Weird heart beat was a heart attack, any cold was bird flu, aches meant cancer and forgetting anything was Alzheimer's. All of my male friends seemed to go thru the same thing but we didn't talk to each other till we were about 32. It was just fear in silence. One other thing. Earlier in life I spoke to a Dr about being too wound up. He gave me a prescription for a medication some use as an antidepressant. I filled it the same day, took one and started back to work. Then the world closed in on me, everything was wrong and it was all I could do not to end it all by driving into oncoming traffic. I spoke to the Dr the next day, cut the dose in half, took it for 6 months and worked on the change I wanted to make then stopped the meds. I still can't believe they turn anyone loose with meds like that. Luckily I had drank and smoked pot before so I could differentiate that the thoughts were from the meds not me and rode it out.

30 was a long time ago for me but here is what I remember. I remember realizing at age 32 that if I kept on drinking I was about 10 years away from an intervention. So I stopped. That was 22 years ago and even though I know it was the right decision, I still often miss the sensation of being drunk.

I can relate to most of these (minus female part). Apart for the wine, I still buy the 4.50€ bottle. Not that I'm a cheapskate, I just know that bottle never disappointed me and it's been my favourite store bought wine ever. On the other hand, I'm lucky I live in a country that praises wine as it's national drink and I can get both red or white wine from a private vineyard, which is ALOT cheaper and ALOT better in taste. That be that, my little wine discussion. Fun topic Emily, loved watching it!
