Not the only musician to find themselves in congress to defend their artistic expression but indeed the only rapper to do it. And, someone please correct me if I'm wrong, Eminem was the LAST musician to end up in that situation. AFAIK he laid that whole conversation to rest. Then again no one has been as controversial as this since the early years of Em.

@laupstad to my knowledge, you are correct. In 1985, the senate attacked the music industry ( the famous hearing where Dee Snider of "Twisted Sister" tore congress a new ass ). This hearing resulted in the creation of the infamous Parental Advisory Sticker as well as making it mandatory to create clean versions of songs or bleep lyrics during radio play. In 2001, the Senate held another hearing against the music industry where they singled out Eminem's "Kill You" as a reason to further add more restrictions to music labels showing what specific content was being flagged. Luckily, the Senate lost this time.

Congress had the hearing in 2001. I was nearly 14 so I wasn't politically aware but I remember when this song came out a year later. It was huge and it was sort of my political awaiting. He has been speaking truth to power for over 25 years now. Loved the reaction.

If you grew up in that late 90s early 2000s you’d get a better feel for the song. We went through a shock rap/rock era coupled with Woodstock 99, and the Columbine school shootings.
