I spent so many years, decades, hating or at the best of times barely tolerating my mom. Things were pretty damn rough between us through my whole childhood and most of my adult life. My little sister came around 13 years after me and she had it every bit as rough as me. I tried, but there's only so much a child can do to protect another child from their own mother. But late in her life she finally got help and was diagnosed bipolar. Which explained a lot. Some times she was the best mom in the world. But the rest of the time she was evil incarnate. I never knew which mom I came home to after school. I just wish she got help earlier. Her favorite song was "Cleaning out my closet" because she related so much to it. I really think she was sorry for all the sh*t she put us through, but it was too late in both our minds. A couple of years after getting diagnosed she unalived herself and we never really reconciled. She never heard this song. I never heard this song before it was too late but I am feeling it now. She wasn't evil. She was sick. Despite what her sickness made her do and say I probably should have been there for her when she was at her lowest. Maybe she'd still be alive if her children hadn't ostracized her. I think this song will help people in that kind of situation and help them to get together and help each other before they can't any more.

This is a testament to all kids who may be mad at their parents when we have kids we know. My father was a marine that fought in nam and the first gulf war when he would come home he would drink ( because of all the brothers he left in the mud where he spilt blood) and be mean and abusive. I used to hate my father but now i understand he was broken but he made sure his wife and kids where taken care of. Now he thinks we all hate him no sir your my hero and my monster he spilled and gave blood for america so i can raise my girls in a free country. He wasn't the best dad but he never had a dad and at 12 picked cotton to provided for his 12 brothers and sisters when his dad left.

You do. You want them to taste the medicine you feel you are getting. But damn people don't do it. I am 45. My parents were gone 7 and 8 years ago respectively. They each never made it to 60. I am very blessed though. My dad married the most wonderful woman after he and my mother divorced. And she has been right there for me and my sister from 3 years old to now. She earned MOM STATUS and I still have a parent to guide me in difficult times. And I tell you there was hell through many years......but I never brought it back up. It would have wrecked the entire family in doing so, because I was just being bitter at what it was to me. So many times I wanted to go off on something I discovered, something that was done wrong......but I didn't. I miss them so much. But they left knowing they were loved. I wanted nothing to be bad. I did not realize this song was out there, or it would rip me apart either. Love your parents y'all. It may not be perfect.....but they are trying so hard. I do not really remember the bad anymore. I remember my mother holding my hand on my first summer visit when I was 5, while we sang "Meet Me In Montana" together. I remember my dad helping me open my Castle Greyskull and playing He-Man with me. It sounds corny and dumb.....Those tiny moments shine the most.
