The true difference between Eminem and most other rappers is this… Eminem’s music was also his therapy…not just some get rich quick scheme. There was a lighting in the bottle effect with his first 4 albums (Encore is a classic as well…sue me 🤷‍♂️) and that effect will forever be his legacy amongst his hardcore fans. Since then his love for rap compelled him to continue to produce new music even though he doesn’t have the same rebellious anger as he did when he was younger. The focus of Eminem’s music has always been on himself, but his personal life isn’t as “interesting” or “shocking” now that he’s rich and successful. His focus now is on the technicalities of his flow and delivery, whilst intertwining wordplay for rap nerds to catch lol. PS: Also…I’d love to know what criteria Lord Jamar has when he critiques rappers aside from Eminem. I can’t help but feel like there is a personal bias that wasn’t expounded on in his clip. 🤔

First of all I don’t know when/where that narrative about Em yelling came from. Does he have a very aggressive delivery in some of his songs? Yes, songs like Till I Collapse, The Way I Am etc. But I’m an old head so I know the type of music Em was listening to growing up cuz I was listening to the same stuff. Busta yells, LL Cool J yells (on the tracks that aren’t for the ladies), KRS yells, Ice Cube yells, DMX yells…I could go on but you get my point

I teach writing, and I use a lot of Eminem's (and now Ren's!) lyrics to teach creating a cohesive message within a complex rhyme, though I have to use a lot of edited versions as I teach high school. I use many artists' lyrics, but I'm responding to this dude (whom I've never heard of) specifically. I also use lyrics that are more fun and freestyle, meant to create pleasant rhythms and word flows. Absolutely nothing wrong with writers having fun with language as long as it isn't completely stupid and devoid of any meaning. All I am hearing come out of this guy's mouth is jealousy and anger, at what exactly I can't say, but he seems to despise Eminem on another level. Great quote I share with my students: "those who are against you are those who believe in your power the most." Sounds like this fella believes in the power of Eminem.

My high school teacher over a decade ago brought a ton of connecting between the required literature and rap. She emphasized how much you have to have a huge vocabulary and understanding of the language plus thesaurus kinda understanding of different words. She pointed out how these old white guys are "the ones we need to study " yet they had so much time to think, write, rewrite, edit, and edited over decades. But live rap battles are (yes you have some ideas pre thought of but you can't plan when to use) insanely improve with the flow, the language, the actually making it make sense etc. I was a huge reading nerd, and rap fan anyways. But it made it click how much it is not just the 'dumb trash' like I had been told nonstop. It also made lots of classmates more excited and willing to participate, which made them go from about to drop out to thriving and finding their niche. Teachers like you, like my previous one, are real teachers who care. REALLY care. You tie it in so the students get it. So they understand and take it to heart and relate. Learning for real not vomit back test answers/ stupid essay. Thank you for being such a great teacher

This is a breakdown of the bitterness of a man whose career has devolved to dissing a greater artist, because the hate he spews is the only reason he remains relevant in conversations. When he's gone, Jamar will be remembered for spending the last years of his career yelling about Eminem, and no one will remember his music. Eminem should send Jamar a "Thank you for your services" note, because Jamar is a major instigator of ongoing Eminem debates, thus keeping Em's name current between projects and the people hungry for more new Em music.
@Unplugged_Toaster
@Unplugged_Toaster Жыл бұрын
I feel like a lot of the people hating on Eminem also only look at this from a US perspective. Try speaking with people from Europe, Asia, Africa, wherever. Clowns like Jamar may not like it, but you can't deny the impact Eminem has had worldwide. It wasn't all Eminem, but he certainly helped elevate the popularity of the genre. It's part of why there are way more international artists and listeners. Maybe you had to be alive when he hit the scene to fully experience this. With the homage Em is constantly paying to the greats before him, he's also helping educate and spreading the names of the OGs that I hope younger people will check out. Especially if they aren't from the US so their names are not as well known. Shit, he has even shouted out some of his haters. Bet a huge percentage of the rappers Jamar is thinking about are people who have given Eminem the props he deserves. If you don't like his music, or don't have him at the top of the pile of your own list, that's fine. Love who and what you love. The ignorance comes in when people talk race or his talent. An artist can be great at their craft but not resonate with you - that goes for anyone, not just Eminem. Just don't disrespect someone's skills because of it.

A lot of people have strenuous relationships with their mother A lot of people hate their fathers cause their father left. A lot of people resonate with those aspects of Eminem too because they can see the arduous relationship in their life too, while others rappers glorified mothers, Em was like, "mine wasn't a saint" which a lot of people feel like. In not making statements about mothers but rather people listening to Eminem and that reflecting it in their childhood.

I'm amazed that anyone thinks: "who gives a f***" is a winning argument. Even if you don't care about his lyrics, lyricism is what leads to things like holding the world record for fastest rap, because word choices really count when it comes to that. The bonus for the rest of us is that it means something as well. To me, that's genius. It's more than "saying it good"

King Crooked: If you were to name one rapper, other than yourself, that you would name as the GOAT... Rakim: one of my favorite MCs of all time is Eminem. Rakim: If Eminem was black, he'd be the next Muhammad Ali. Hov: Eminem and Nas are the only rappers alive that I view as competition. (When feuding with Game) 50 Cent: Hip-Hop is black music... and it'll be hard for some people to admit that a white artist does it better than black artists. Kool G: It's like he[Eminem] got the whole package. Same way I thought about Big, thought about Jay and Nas. I can name countless examples of the best/most popular of Hip-Hop talking about why Eminem is one of the GOATs from rappers like Kendrick, LL, Fat Joe, Big Daddy Kane, Royce, Ice Cube, Cole, Nas, Jada, Kurupt, Snoop, etc. Lord Jamar is irrelevant to Hip-Hop. If Lord Jamar wants to hold his black kings to such high value, take what Melle Mel said about Hip-Hop being the biggest cultural appropriation/culture vulture of all time and see if your Black Rap Kings truly are Kings.

He's the most hated because he is white. I didn't even know he was white when I first came across his music back in like 2004. He's loved all over the world but Americans are so obsessed with race. No other white rapper have been close to having as many fans and listeners but because he blew up so hard people think it's because of his skin color. I couldn't care less about some shitheads judging without listening to his music, it's their loss for missing out on greatness. And of course people should have their opinions, it's fine by me if they don't think he's the "king of rap". But as soon as people starts using his skin color as an argument I discard it immediately.

If you told L. Jamar to explain why he hated Eminem without bringing up Cleaning out My Closet, “they don’t play him in the club or streets” or he can’t relate to him, I wonder what he would say. Dude always has the same old arguments as other people who hate on Eminem. It’s a dumb reason.

Lord lamar has clearly never listened to headlights. That song is a literal apology to his mom and stuff. And not to mention, its a wonderful song to drive to and yes, i would play it in da club. Just out of spite. Spite towards lord lamar. Hes lord tart if you ask me. 😂

Eminem's career is a weird one. In the beginning with the SSLP, MMLP and the eminem show he was so hungry. After that i wouldnt say he fell off cause as a lyricist he is top notch, personally i found it hard to listen to him on a regular also because his subject matter wasnt really there anymore. With artists like eminem, wayne, drake etc. they are so huge that people will buy/ like anything they put out. Im still a fan even tho he just doesnt resonate with me THAT much anymore cause his name and influence in hip hop cannot be erased.

Not afraid, bad guy, legacy, beautiful pain, guts over fear, darkness, beautiful, untouchable, castle, arose, love the way you lie these are just few songs came to my mind that was after eminem show and they all have substance. Maybe subject matter doesn't interest you but you can not say it is not there anymore. I just don't understand how can people claimed that. Yes he has songs that are just for fun (he always had) or show off his technical skills but he has plenty of serious songs that really touch people

Eminem is the greatest words smiths of all time he had to work hard to get to where he is today doesn’t matter what race he is he deserves to be here and to me I don’t believe the “guest of hiphop” because it’s stupid asf anybody can rap regardless of color and gender

The hate is usually grounded in 3 songs they've heard and that's all they know and form their whole opinion around to define Em and his pen. "My Name Is" (no substance), "Rap God" (just rapping fast) and any song from Revival to say his beats sucks. And of course no club banger... Just because they havn't been to any of the thousands of clubs that did and been playing his few club hits, like "Smack That". Movies too.

Whoever this clown is dissing Em, he should sit back and listen to Em’s discography (which would take a week or so of constant listening) and then attempt to understand more than the 1% of his more “cartoon like” songs made for a very specific reason. Em can out-rap, out storytell, out cadence; and every other rap ability. Em is literally the whole package. One of my other fave rappers is Aesop Rock (NOT A$AP Rocky), and his rhyme writing, storytelling, technicals, vocabulary, cadence, and everything is utterly immaculate! I wouldn’t want to hear most of his music in a club either though! This guy just clowned himself.

It's interesting he mentions Nas. In the UK (during the mid 90s, when I was a teenager) it often felt like a competition between 2pac and Biggie. I wasn't familiar with much hip hop, but it was Nas that I'd listen to, especially his first 2 albums. When Em broke I don't remember black friends playing his, or Dre's new album, as much as 2pac, and then Dead Prez. It's difficult to know whether racism was a factor. However, it does seem that no matter what Em releases, Lord Jamar is going to have some issues with it.

Knox man, he's almost right, but gets a bit heated about it. Em got played in lots of places, but lots of times...it got old. Then he started releasing dodgy albums. Seemed to be a bit of a dick, but was undeniably the best at what he did. He didn't say much, he just mispronounced words and bent them to make them fit. On the scale of MC Vocabulary, he only comes somewhere near the middle. At the top are 2 guys you WILL know and that's Andre 3000 and Aesop Rock (not Rocky...Rock). They're the guys putting sense into their rhymes, using more words, technically. That's official, I can send you a paper from a University study of every MC and their complexity of vocabulary. It's a cool thing to behold. It's the difference between a rapper and an MC, is what he's saying.

Im commenting at the beginning of the video. So I don’t know what the conclusion is. But I think there is an equilibrium about it. He is without a doubt one of the GOATs. So equally I think it makes sense that he gets all that hate as well. Plus he asks for it literally, -“I thank you for it” It makes him go harder. That’s just my opinion.
