Just an FYI, I misspoke on the Net Neutrality part. The administration did NOT support Net Neutrality. Because they did not support it, the FCC removed the policy and now ISPs can throttle bandwidth as they see fit. The internet is no longer fair and equal for all. We talked about it in detail in this piece: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5nGcmVvj7Njfrc Thanks for the love guys! Feels good to be back!

Love your work, but I would also question if MGK actually dissed Eminem on that Tech 9 collaboration. How many rappers have been biting off that "Rap God" shit since Em dropped it? MGK called out "all you rappers." When you listen to MGK's diss you realize that he thinks Em is still pissed about 2012. MGK expresses the way he got blackballed as his source of upset. Therefore I would say Em's diss is really a blessing in disguise used to right some wrongs. I can't wait to hear your breakdown though.

I can’t lie, I actually liked “Ye” a lot. I think it was one of Kanye’s most special projects to date due to how introspective and vulnerable he got with his honesty, refreshing in a musical genre where men are constantly pushed to be as macho and braggadocious as possible. Kanye’s definitely been conflicted on some things and seemingly said some stuff he didn’t always mean or that didn’t accurately portray the actual message he was trying to get across, but I’ve always felt like he was for the people, at least with his music. I actually never listened to Revival, but Kamikaze was lit af. Definitely an entertaining Em project at worst, with some really energizing moments.

People hated it because kanye didn’t go “hard” or because none of the tracks were “fire”. ye is a much more laid back listen compared to his other albums and thats not what his hardcore fans wanted
@age-ben49106 жыл бұрын
+@@egoleo6693 To be honest the main critism of the "Ye" album is that it came off as incomplete thoughts and half-baked. Keep in mind the album is 20-minutes only and has 7 songs which is not enough for a rapper as complex and super artistic as Kanye West. Compare an album like MBDTF which had a flowing theme throughout with cohesiveness to the Ye album which came off as lacking. If Kanye had taken his time, it would have been a good album but most of the songs were made in under 2 weeks after he scrapped his original album after TMZ. I personally like 4 out of the 7 songs on the album but I would not label it as a great body of work from someone like a Kanye West. He can and frankly could have done better.

THE GOAT IS BACK. i don't even have to comment on this spectacular piece, 'cause it speaks for itself. still, I gotta say two things, though: i love how you took a minute to rethink about Kanye and his whole MAGA "controversy", Jus. you've evolved as a person. we tend to crucify people based on their political views and we forget way too quickly what they've accomplished based on their talents - which we love, by the way. plus, it pisses me off when I see media outlets, namely Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, Noisey and Billboard, throwing shade at Em's efforts. when he softens up, they say they want Shady back. when he brings full-blown Shady back, they say they want a softened version of him. like, ffs, decide on what you want already!!! you asked for Shady and he came back, and now you wanna act like he never said homophobic stuff? or he never talked about girls being "bitches"? thank God Eminem broke through in the late-1990's, early-2000's, because he would never have been so great and successful if he broke through in these years of political correctness that limit art, creativity and greatness. plus, Em didn't say the word "faggot" by himself, he just quoted what Tyler said about his own sexuality and EVEN CENSORED IT. media gon' hate anyway, doesn't matter what Em says. thanks for this episode, Jus, it is reinvigorating to watch someone who truly understands rap music talking about it. 10/10.

I really feel like kanyes albums were affected by his public issues. If you read the reviews for ye, a lot of them bring up his political siding with Trump. I don't agree with Trump, whatsoever, but you need to separate the personal views from the projects they put out when it comes to rating them. Ye was an amazing album. Nasirs production was phenomenal. Nas' lyrics on the other hand, wasn't. That effected it the most. Also, Eminem and MGK are in a feud and Colin Kaepernick is the face of Nike. This is the most stressed out white people have been since Sears closed.

I think part of this drop off is natural. Kanye is 41, Em is 46. That’s old for the world of pop music. Even the greatest artists of all time start to lose sales and relevancy at some point (even if their music remains high quality). Since Wings broke up in 1981 (when he was 39), Paul McCartney has never reclaimed the commercial success he had during the 60’s and 70’s. And Paul has never had a single controversy. My point is it’s hard to continually make great music for decades. It’s not surprising that artists like West and Eminem struggle to maintain the commercial and critical success of their heydays as they age. The reason this is unusual is that hip-hip is such a fast changing genre that artists normally don’t stick around long enough to fight for relevance in their 40’s.
@drasconboy63496 жыл бұрын
Both Jay Z and Beyoncé have stayed relevant in their 50s and 40s
@samseliger6056 жыл бұрын
Hov is 48, Bey is 37. But even so, it would be hard to deny that Jay had fallen off musically, at least some, in the late 2000's and into the 2010's. Most of Jay's best music (at least so far) came before his first "retirement." However, 4:44 and Everything Is Love were great.
@jennag32266 жыл бұрын
Em really isn't fighting for relevancy though. The man has the highest pure hip hop album sales of the year and kamikaze just hit one billion streams, his 6th album to do so. All of his albums have outsold nearly everyone in the genre, even revival had the 2nd highest pure hip hop album sales of 2017. He has 35+ million KZbin subs and averages around 20,000 new subs daily. Kamikaze is also his 9th consecutive number 1 debut and em is the most successful artist of his era to transition into the streaming age as he is the 4th highest streamed artist. He's also the number 1 most searched hip hop artist the 3rd most searched musical artist and the 5th most searched person in the world. Sounds more like the definition of relevance rather than the antithesis of it. JS

I believe it felt like Revival a passion project, in which he felt revived in the sense of his new take on life or as ppl consider it "Woke" Eminem, after years of folks claiming he said grow up, he did. The song walk on water was a song describing how he felt in sense of ppl expect perfection from Em, but he feels he may not be able to give that all the time and he's sorry he cant deliver that for his fans. So in short the backlash he received was a major blow for him, for the passion and love letter to his fans, and the hate was from his fans and peer he respects, so of course he's gonna lash out and say fuck it, enough of that, you cant accept my change why change, back to the old me I go. Kamikaze he saying if I respond to that nonsense you guys shot at me, Imma take an L, so I might as well take you with me.

I think Eminem, 2pac, Biggie, and Kendrick are all overrated as hell. From a Black Guy.

Great to see you back Justin...Cant wait to see you report on MGK. I personally think it was a good dis, not too lyrical but he did pull a B.Rabbit all while giving props at the same time..again not lyrical but I feel it was honest..Good to see that the true feelings of his fans is the Kryptonite to the super power of Kanye West. Seem losing the Don's (Donda & Don C) put him in bad head space. Im glad to see him making a mental comeback. Again great to see you back hip hop needs your voice bro.

That moment when Joe Budden thinks he was better than Em.. Only Royce is on level imo. Slaughterhouse was dope tho, too bad it's done.

Bet you never heard a joe album after the 1st one. Joe made it clear, yea em can rhyme any word with any syllable.,. But bars and content.....joe definitely can roll with that group....so can crooked I and j Ortiz
@sherekhanxii6 жыл бұрын
@@djnes2k7 i have the love lost series all 3 albums rage and the machine, along with his first album. Joe is dope dont get me wrong, em lyrically is amazing. Content wise along with lyricism i still go with Em. His story telling keeps you engaged where joes story telling mostly consist if his ex's and some experiences with admitting to taking pills. I love joe but what he said on his podcast is dead wrong

5:43 I believe that he probably would have dropped another album that quickly regardless of how well received the album (Revival) was. He probably planned on some sort of follow-up album, like relapse + refill, but maybe with more songs. The negative review of Revival may have inspired the "8-mile" style of content in Kamakaze, as you put it, but maybe a positive review of Revival would have simply created a "say goodbye to hollywood" kind of vibe.
