First time i saw this was in early 2008, I was up late playing ps3 and had a bad fever. I accidentally pressed a button on my remote and switched from HDMI to TV and this was already rolling. I thought I was hallucinating from the fever ! I'll never forget this song for this reason.

good music in 2007 and 2008. probably the peak of my life that era, I had that living in the moment and soaking it all up mindset. massive social life, loved the fashion, loved the music. new HD technology emerging, so many new things. I miss that time. The music was so good and it somehow seemed effortless. It was also an era when you could just download everything for free.

Aging is a funny thing. I’m 38. This came out when I was 22. At that time something like this emerged and I recall really enjoying the song, the video and the Tim Burton Batman references. Then 15 years go by and what was good suddenly gets elevated because culturally things shift, videos and music changes as it always does and it becomes one of the highlights of its time such that people 15 years later still talk about and celebrate it. In my mind this is an example of one of the great pieces of pop culture from that time. So funny that this is referencing the 80’s New Order and new wave, and now here we are 15 years later and probably this is providing some inspiration to a younger generation who’s parents introduced them to this because of their love of it from their own youth. I always find musical taste funny. When I was a teacher in Vietnam, I tutored a lot of expat kids on how to make music using iPads. I remember ten years ago asking the kid I was teaching what kind of music he liked. He was about 8-9. “I like Gary Numan, Depeche Mode, and the Human League.” Oh right I thought he had older Gen X parents. Story checks out. Culture is a funny thing. Here’s to the harmonic concentric spheres of popular culture oscillating at 20 year cycles.
