Something I haven’t seen anyone talk about. The fact that they are both boys means that Yuki can hug/touch Kakeru, which is a stark contrast to the relationship between Tohru and Kyo!! I just started to watch Fruits Basket, and from the first episode I fell in love with Yuki. No offense to Machi, but it would be interesting character development if he turned out gay. So nobody asked for this technically, BUT I've always wanted to draw something Fruits Basket-related and one of my favorite non-canon ships in the show is Yuki and Kakeru! I can understand but the ship likely would've been controversial at the time and especially in Japan. The manga was made back in the 2000s where LGBTQ hadn't been mainstream yet in any Western countries and would've been controversial then. And this is Japanese media, Japan is not a progressive country and being gay and etc. is only seen as a foreigner thing. Natsuki Takaya still has to write for the audience of Japan and write things within her country's own cultural context and not another's.

Everyone has high expectations on him he’s expected to be perfect and happy all the time he never drinks nor blacks out, for the first time ever when he’s talking to that boy he blacks out not because of drinking because of he touched him. I relate a lot to this song, at my old school (I went to a private Christian school), I was always known as the “good kid.” I never got in trouble, was nice to everyone, got good grades, stuff like that. In seventh grade, I had my first crush. An exchange student was in my praise band class, and I started blushing red like a tomato. I was so scared because at the time I genuinely believed that being gay was a huge sin and I would be looked down upon by everyone I knew. I tried to make the blushing stop, I was in a church of all places. This shouldn’t be happening. What is wrong with me? How can I make it stop? Can I make it stop? This will surely ruin my reputation... The next day the whole situation blew over. Somehow nobody noticed and I went back to life as normal, thinking I was straight as a ruler. The day before my graduation, I realized I had a huge crush on my friend who was also a girl. It was so ironic, I was leaving that school as a changed person, I could finally let go of the pressure to be straight and let myself be who I really was. I go to a public school now, I’ve only come out to two people and they have both been immensely supportive. I feel so safe and happy now, it’s amazing. I hope everyone struggling with what I am going through right now can accept themselves and be happy. Best of luck to all of you ♥︎

If your religion hurts you in any way, then I don’t recommend staying. A religion’s supposed to be something that comforts you and makes you feel better, not something that makes you feel like a prisoner. Or maybe you were just in the wrong crowd. What I did back then was leave religion entirely because it and my beliefs don’t really interconnect, and believing in something I don’t believe isn’t worth it. When I left it, I created my own code and rules of life I’d follow. It’s been great for me ever since. Though some people have been against me, I don’t really care. I’ve come out years ago, got some backlash, but I didn’t really care since there are people who supported me, and I think that’s all that matters.

Yuki is my favourite character in Fruits Basket and this hit hard. I adore Machi and Yuki but I also love Yuki and Kakeru, the bond between the two of them is undeniable. I just generally love how the student council helped Yuki to better understand himself and his relationships with other people. this was AMAZING! can't wait for season 3!
