Only thing that I would nitpick would be that diesel isn’t injected at the start of intake like you stated in the beginning. It’s typically injected just before TDC on compression stroke. The fuel hitting that hot compressed air acts like the spark plug and the fuel at the same time. It sprays the fuel when the “spark” is supposed to ignite it.

I need to recommend your channel to like 75% of the people at this company, second job I was on we had someone put GASOLINE in the DEF tank of a telehandler and luckily it melted the injector shut cause the mechanic said it could have caused a "major backfire" then on the job I'm on now we had a guy run a dozer till it was literally out of DEF forcing it into a limp mode even after they refilled it so they had to send it back.

Okay, there are some things in this video I should have known and didn’t, but I still have one more question… What about the DEF that’s in the machine? Do I need to drain that out if it’s going to sit for a few weeks, or months? Does it matter if it’s hot?

Generally speaking the DEF in the machine is going to be okay. If you were going to store the equipment long term than you might think about draining the DEF tank but under normal circumstances the DEF is moving through the system fast enough that you shouldn't run into any issues.

Bryan, great episode! Question, How does the freeze thaw cycle affect DEF? Like if I leave my backhoe, no DPF just DEF. parked on site and it freezes? I know the DEF tank has coolant lines running through it, so if I plug it in, the block heater and cooling system will keep it from freezing. If it isn't plugged in and it freezes, the control console directs me to run at a higher rpm in order to thaw it. But was is the effect on the DEF itself?

Everyone I've talked to on the manufacturer side says that the freeze/thaw cycle shouldn't degrade the DEF. Freezing doesn't cause the urea to crystalize like evaporation so in theory you shouldn't have a problem.

Unfortunately I've arrived at the conclusion that the Sunday livestream is done. I've got a lot of stuff I'm juggling and that was taking even more time away from my family. I might do a random stream here and there but the every week schedule was just getting to be too much.

For a full DPF cleaning? If you're having to remove the DPF and clean it that often I think you have some issues.

@@Jack-1212 I've never had to do a DPF clean out that early. If you're using the right oil you should be able to way more than 1500 hours out of the DPF.

@@Jack-1212 the reason you have to wash out the DPF isn't related to the actual diesel particulate. Ash is a byproduct of the small bit of oil that gets burnt during the combustion process and the ash cannot be cooked off. Over time that is what builds up in the DPF and clogs it to the point that it has to be removed and cleaned
