A great yet humble man....loved by all who saw him play fairly on every occasion...his close tussles with Carlton great John Nichols at Kardinia Park live on in my mind 57 years later.....2 great champions.

Two of Australia's greatest footballers. I'm a Perth supporter and I regard Polly as the greatest ever player. I have a friend who is an East Perth supporter and he claims Barry is the greatest ever player - go figure.

I have seen Barry Cable at the Coburg football ground 36 years ago practicing his skills, and saw him hit the bulleyes not 10 but 20 times , one hitting the 7 just missing. Every Sunday morning this was broadcasted...its just a get together. Cable use to hit that ball hard and fast than you see here. Try getting up after a soild Saturday game to do this early morning Sunday....demonstrates how good they were, even Farmer was out of the game for a couple of years.

When it came to handball there was Cable and Greg Williams then Polly then everyone else. I remember this anniversary episode of World Of Sport. It was a wonderful celebration of the greatest sports show of all time. Sadly the final episode was like a funeral. 1987 was a terrible year for channel 7

You need to see Australian Rules Football to understand this.

Maybe early '80s. Polly retired as a player, in the '60s. He is the player that was the perfecter of the handball. My dad used to say "Polly changed the way the game was played." Here are Graeme Farmers career statistics:- kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZDchGuqp5iHnJY

I don't know of many sports where 3 players went head to head with each other.

amateurish? do have any idea how dumb that sounded and if they did seem like amateurs its because when they played they were. Everyone of them had a job they would go to every Monday like the rest of us
@dvidclapperton2 жыл бұрын
Indeed amateur is just sportspeople not being paid for what they do on court or the field. Amateur has nothing to do with the actual standard.
