I have one too. I once found a green-and-blue striped bow tie. I had been looking for one for a while, and bought it for (and I can't remember exactly) maybe $1.50. It was the perfect style and size, too. And as look would have it, when I got curious and looked it up, I found out it was from a major dress company. And also that it was worth $300!

I love the Kickasserole dish. In fact, I love all thrift store things. It's like peering into a small aspect of someone's life, the object telling a story of who the person who owned it was, and possibly how inebriated they were when they bought it. It shows a past life, one that you've never known, but it's ready to live a new life with whoever buys it.

I kind of need it because I have an old family favorite recipe (my mom had been making it since the late '50s) that us kids started calling "kick ass stew" in the '70s/'80s and I'm the only one with the actual recipe now. I need that dish for the next family event. (I even still have a few pieces of Mom's '90s blue and white spongewear that match it. No, no one in our family [or any in-laws] has ever been named Karen, so it's a little extra funny to me.)

The pricing of thrift shop items and goods in relation to the actual value depends mostly on who's working when they're listing and tagging things; if the person doing pricing can't be bothered to do their due diligence on item research, then you can end up with some insane deals. If someone on duty knows their crap and what it's worth, then you'll still get a fair price (compared to buying new), but nowhere near the levels of OMG seen here.

One of the best thrift finds I’ve found is more personal tbh. I am a huge fan of pretty cure. I am autistic and this power ranger-esque magical girl series has been one of my mainstay hyper fixations for a while, on top of magical girls in general. Well, one day at my local goodwill, I found an original Cure Princess plush, the deutagonist in Happiness Charge Precure, from all the way back when it first aired in 2014, with only a few minor blemishes. At the time, pretty cure wasn’t really popular in the west, and so finding merch like that in America that wasn’t jacked up to some insane price was as rare as the rapture. Nowadays with the series being on crunchyroll this is mostly a non issue. Needless to say, I took that plush home and placed it on my shelf. It’s still there to this day. It isn’t worth a lot in the secondary market compared to other pretty cure merch of the time. But it is the most valuable and crazy thing I’ve ever found at the thrift store due to the joy it brought me. Lady Luck is real, folks.

Probaby my best story was our town used to hold a car boot sale twice a week (pandemic kinda killed it off, boo). I was going through there one day and spotted a gameboy colour, wasn't working at the time. No batteries or back plate.... then I spotted a cartridge in it. Now, having played videogames since a toddler and having a background in e-commerce where I had to learn to value pretty much anything, I was like 'okay how much?' 50 pence. I actually gave the woman £1 and told her to keep the change. What did I buy you ask? that cartridge was a legitimate functioning copy of Pokemon Crystal. I ended up gifting it to my best friend because they'd been trying to get hold of it for a reasonable price for ages with no luck. They got a good investment and with a bit of fiddling and a few parts, I had a functional gameboy colour to add to my handheld collection.

This is my new favourite subreddit. I love talking with other thrifters about our awesome finds and how little it cost us! Some of my best finds include a save the queen top with gorgeous sleeves for €3.50, an incredible diesel purse for €7 and a real Carlo Colucci cardigan for €12 (new ones go for at least €150), but I know people that found designer gowns for €50 at yard sales and flea markets. Thrifting really is an amazing experience! There are always the most wack things to be found in the stores and usually at great prices! You do need a little bit of luck, but that just makes it more fun

To date, my best thrift find was my prom dress. A beautiful strapless, floor length red dress with a built in petticoat, no tags but clearly almost brand new. I've kept a few pieces, sold many (it helped me save up to buy a really nice gaming computer!) Best finds have been: Unopened brand new Barbie: Queen of the Prom board game from 1961 for $1 at an estate sale. Sold it for over $100. Also, a collection of brand new Tierney paper dolls in a box for like maybe $10. Thrift stores are the BEST places on earth. A local one just opened and they're doing a special of 1$ clothes. I got some pretty stuff. Got a neat glow in the dark puzzle, a dress, a mug of a collection my family just randomly collects, a whole dang wool poncho with fur trims (don't question my style pls.) But my BEST finds so far must be a bunch of my furniture and a shawl made of llama wool for 8$. Well, my winter coat is worth 300$ and I paid it 15. My favorite summer hat is a thrift find. The most "omg I found that" find tho is a set of Barbies from the early 2000s that I was actively hunting for and that go for 100$ on ebay most of the time, so I've never bought them. But 10$ for both? heck yeah. And I have much more. Why not, the green toaster, the perfect bed sheets just as I damaged mine, a whole friggin duvet with a cover set for 15$ (worth 150+). I said my furniture was thrifted: 100$ wooden dining table set 15$ reclining armchair 4$ end table 5$ bedside table 65$ antique wooden wardrobe I also collect antique teacups, specifically, English 1930s-1950s. Well, on the dining table I bought, there was a dishware set. 70s anniversary reprint of a set right smack in the middle of what I collect. Since they're a reprint, I use them as daily dishware, but I kept some of my old stuff. Why? Because these are called "gold rose" and with reason. They have a real gold rose in the middle of every piece along with a painted gold border. So, I can't put them in the microwave at all, they spark. But I adore them. A 6 setting ensemble with large plates, small plates, dessert plates, bread plates, bowls and saucers. None of it is damaged, they are stamped and they are worth at least 15$ a piece, up to 50$ a piece

Speaking of manifesting, not really a thrift find, but my sister won a discontinued hairy bikers portable grill. I can't go near a cooker/oven/hob because of ptsd. I have been seeing nothing except for grill recipes and the past few days, which I have told nobody about, and today my sisters grill became mine. I didn't even know she had one. It's now my personal vegetarian grill. Between that and the air fryer (gift off mother) I'm set to not use an oven until I'm ready again Update: chowing down on a veggie bacon sandwich! The grill lines means some parts are undercooked, but this is some damn good bacon for my first time touching a grill

As much as I like these, this just tells me there are people who know what they looking at better than the people selling

6:45 So before this video, I had never heard the term 'reformation' in terms of fashion. So you can imagine my confusion when I incorrectly assumed it meant the husband found a 16th century European dress at a thrift store for $20.

14:12 what I’m more impressed by Robin is the fact that the person that bought it managed to find the appropriate type of pillows to fill the freaking thing

2:18 I think that is not a mirror. It is a glass painting like those Stained Glass church windows.
