1:30 not only was Oscar Wilde definitely not a virgin (considering he was imprisoned for being gay) but he was also a femininst, and activly believed in equal opportunity and rights for men and women. I actually looked up this quote as I was quite suprised to see it, and when I looked up the meaning it said that it was referring to how a man could say anything and not be juged, and therefore, usually what you see is what you get, but women were often forced to hide their true thoughts, opinions and emotions in order to appear "feminine" and "proper" and therefore they could not be their true selfs, and rather, a fiction. I definitely prefer this interpretation to the "women bad because makeup" interpretation.

What always gets me with the pink and blue thing is that it wasn't that long ago they were the other way round. Girls were prone to "hysteria" (aka opinions and feelings that weren't what they were told to have) so were made to wear calming colors like blue (Alice in Wonderland, anyone?) while boys were meant to be hot-blooded and high-spirited, so wore stimulating colors like pink.

not only that but things like high heels, nail polish and makeup were originally worn by primarily men, i just think it's funny how arbitrary these fake rules are yet there are people who swear by them and don't realize that they have changed and will change all the times

I don’t get why people always bring this up. It’s true but.. what is it supposed to mean? I don’t think anyone believes that liking a certain color is wired into our chromosomes. In today’s society, pink is a symbol for femininity. Just like a circle is a symbol for the sound ”Oh“, or a cross is a symbol for christianity. Doesn’t mean that gendered stuff is not stupid. I just think that gendered colors are the least of our problems, when there are things like cook books for real men.

The cat thing really ticks me off. Cats are treated as if they have no loyalty or respect to their owners, and it’s far from true. And me as a male, I find that one extremely infuriating. I have had amazing cats even at the age of 4, where the cat would return to me even if I was a little rough the previous day (smothering it, trying to pick it up too much, stuff like that). Cats are amazing creatures and can be there just as much as a dog sometimes. My cats I’ve had have came to cheer me up when I needed it too.

Agreed! We're a pet loving household. We've always had cats and have had dogs since we settled in our long-term home. We've lost 3 cats and 3 dogs over the years. We currently have 4 cats and 2 dogs. Each and every one of them are/were beloved family members with unique personalities and special in ways all their own. Our lives are fuller and more blessed for each of our furry ones.

a lot of people just think cats are mean or not loyal because they don't openly smother you with love the second they see you like a dog does, you have to earn their trust and you can't control them like you would a dog, and some people just hate that

not saying cats aren't loyal, but dogs at least don't literally get pheromones to make you more docile in the air. That fact about cats gives me some shivers. Also the cat that they basically domesticated themselves because they weren't really useful for people (and before you say anything about pest control, dogs are usually as good or even better than cats, you just need the right breed) so we had no reason to try to domesticate them.

Toilet thing: while most assume it common knowledge, there were problems in my school with people flushing pads and tampons, blocking the drains and making the blood come up through the PE shower drains, which stunk to hell. This was entirely because the school gave out "flushable" pads that weren't really flushable and refused to provide the women with bins. The rest of the "please don't flush" items aren't afab exclusive though, so idk what they were doing there. Prayer thing: what's the bet the "prayers for girls" is just a "god please let me have a less painful period" /j

As someone with a lifelong struggle with depression, anxiety and substance abuse, "never talk about your problems" is incredibly dangerous to suggest to people of either gender or any gender identity, sexuality etc. ALWAYS talk about your problems. I wouldn't be alive and sober today if I was taught not to being brought up. I don't mean prattling on about them over the watercooler and boring the ass off people, I mean talk to a professional or loved one, no matter how small the problem is, and talk through your issues. If you let them stew without support, they can end in tragedy. There are even free and anonymous support groups for basically every problem under the sun. Most groups, like AA which I attend, don't even care if you have the specific problem the group is for. You don't even have to be an active addict. Even just someone at *risk* of becoming an addict due to unbearable feelings is welcome.

Yeah, it was funny to see that one in this video. The video is about things that are pointlessly gendered. People are not pointlessly gendered. Genders do have a point when it comes to people. They shouldn't when it comes to products and objects which can be useful to a person regardless of gender, like shampoo or screwdrivers or bathrobes. Seriously, have you ever shopped for bathrobes? The only difference between men's and women's bathrobes is that women's bathrobes aren't warm or comfortable and they cost 3x as much. Sure, the women's bathrobes are sexier than the men's, but you buy a bathrobe to be cozy. You buy lingerie to be sexy. Men's bathrobes should be called "bathrobes" and the women's bathrobes should just be sold as "comfortable lingerie"

Technically, in written Chinese, the word usually translated for "him" or "he" (他) isn't actually gendered. This is because the left part of the word is simply "person" (人), while the "she" or "her" (她) has the word "female" (女) on the side. This is why when refering to a group of not gender specific people or a group of men, the phrase "他们" is used, containing the word for "he" (but not exclusive to male) while when referring to a group of only women, "她们" is used and contains the word for "she".

"她" for female is invented during the last century bc some dude who read and translated too much western literature/books felt the need to gender the third person pronoun. So this word itself is needless gendering.

The funny thing to me is that in spoken Chinese, both the word for “he” and for “she”, 他 and 她, are pronounced the same, “ta”. This is why many native Chinese speakers mix up “he” and “she” when learning English.

7:47 So, in Chinese, "he" or "she" are both pronounced "tā," but are written "他" (he) and "她" (she). In spoken language, the pronoun depends entirely on the context, and is the equivalent of "they" (though, of course, the plural "they" is pronounced and written differently). In written language, "he" and "she" are separate. Why this was in r/pointlesslygendered? No clue. EDIT: Found some other comments about this that are way more accurate. Go read those 💀

I actually like the forgive but don’t forget thing. It’s more referring to forgiving but still being able to realize when there’s a pattern of behavior instead of just forgiving the same bad behavior/treatment again and again and again and again. It comes from a quote that goes something like “the foolish forgive and forget, the wise forgive but do not forget, the stupid neither forgive nor forget.” I don’t remember the exact wording but that’s roughly it.
