This is by far my favorite adaptation! I really felt the casting was perfect. This version was almost identical to the way I saw it in my head as I read the novel!! I have read this novel many times over and just recently came across this adaptation for the film. I am in love with this film!! Fantastic !!!

I actually think the latest 2020 version is the best ... by far! I agree however that this one is better than all the others before. Romola Garai alone is hands down superb! Exactly how you'd imagine her to be from the book.

I love this version and have it on while I work. I really didn't like Emma 2020 much at all. I felt it was a whimsical take and very pretty looking, but not really the spirit of the novel. You never understand why Knightley even loves Emma. She's a caricature of what people think Emma is, not as how she is presented in the novel. This version captures the true Emma - a multi-dimensional character.

Certainly the best adaptation of Emma! Kudos to the cast, especially the two actors playing the lead characters.

The screenwriter's comments about wanting to inspire people to go read the book after seeing a film adaptation was great. I was satisfied to know after watching this clip that she also wrote the screenplay to North and South, which inspired me to read the book by Elizabeth Gaskell.

What a beautifully done adaptation. Ms. Garai and Mr. Miller did a fantastic job. Love. Love. Love this Emma! Thank you!

Just saw this in Canada, and I must say its fantastic. Many of the other productions of Austen novels have had a few characters that are miscast, but in this case everyone was great. It may even be my favourite of all adaptations.

I agree that this is the best Emma. But all three famous Emma's are excellent in their own ways. My one objection here is the very insubstantial Jane Fairfax. Bravo, in any case.

This remains one of my favourite adaptations. It's also what I think of (along with North and South) when I think of the late and great Sir Michael Gambon.

I wasn't looking too forward to this adaptation due to some of the negative reviews it got, and also that I felt nobody could have done it better than Gywneth Paltrow. But I watched it on KZbin ( thank you KZbin!) and I loved it so much I was so sorry it was short :)

Haha, love the Austen referencing! I too love this series, and think it the 'sweetest and best of all Austen adaptations, faultless in spite of all its faults'. ;)

Nice adaptation as far as Emma's adaptations go... My least favourite of the novels but I believe they got the tone right. Austen would have approved, I think!

@Leidilandelta Yeah, he looks beautiful in that scene. It's the light I think... not that he's not a handsome guy, he defentely is. But, you know, the lights and the costume... ;-)

I hate that he feels like he has to cater to contemporary audiences and be "modern!" in some way. He doesn't. The material speaks for itself. And, thankfully, it ended up being the most faithful in spite of it.
