Emma&Ben for sure met but off-screen. A lot of things 'happen' on TV shows off-screen. People who whine about not seeing Emma and Ben together and more often, fail to understand that acting with kids on set is very hard and every tv show tries to limit the time of children on the screen, if they are needed. Look up many interviews with many A-listers actors, or any actor really, and see they all repeat one universal truth about acting: acting alongside children and animals is the worst. Why? Not because children or animals are not cute or great, on the contrary - they are cute, and they are great, but they are also unpredictable, impossible to control, 'expensive' in terms of contracts vs their contribution to the project, and they are quickly tired. Children on set, especially as little as the girl who played Emma was, require 24/7 care by caretakers, which of course cost money and additional time, and additional shooting time on tv and in movies, again - cost money, and all kids, even older ones like Ben in later seasons, are still unpredictable, they are tired very quickly, and one scene, even on a sitcom, can take the whole day to shoot or even more than one day, sometimes. Secondly, it is very possible that in the later seasons, the actor who played older Ben wasn't available anymore or wasn't available at the particular time when the girl who played Emma was available. And the last one: it wasn't a show focused on children, but on young adults and Ben was from the get-go a background character, just as Carol was. Recurring, but with appearances more in line with a guest-star bill. He was on the show as a newborn in maybe 2 episodes, as a very little 2-3-year-old baby maybe 3 times in seasons 2-3, one time later in seasons 4-5, and then 3 times as a 7-8-year-old in seasons 7 and 8. So throughout 10 years, he was on screen, a total of 10 or maybe 12 times. And this was by design. So Ben was never a regular on this show in the first place, he was in fact very rarely on screen. So people who whine he suddenly 'disappeared' are really acting dumb. Tv shows or movies with little children as main characters are very rare, and if it is, indeed the case, these children are often children of the insiders, so people who work in the acting business for a long time and know how to do this, or children who have been acting since they were practically newborns, often in commercials, so they have an experience themselves and they parents know what they are doing. And Friends creators trusted their fans that they will understand this, cause this is like a basic knowledge every normal audience with a brain should have in this day and age.
