In terms of speaking different languages. Leylah is much better than Emma. It is not even comparable. I know Leylah is very good in English and French. Not sure how fluent Leylah is in Spanish but it must be better than Emma's Chinese. We can't expect Leylah to speak the language of the Philippines because she belongs to the 3rd generation outside of the Philippines.

During Emma's 2 weeks at Flushing Meadows, I didn''t see too much coverage from China. While Leylah had a lot of Filipinos American fans at the stadium but there were almost no Chinese Americans there to support Emma. We know there is a significant Chinese population in the city of NY. @3:16, the gentleman was induced into a state of shock to hear Emma speaking Chinese. Emma is so lovely and a natural beauty!

The info of her being half chinese was scarce, most came to know her heritage after she won the semi.
@tweedy4sg2 жыл бұрын
Few knew she's half-Chinese. It's very well concealed by the western media. Perhaps she should include her mother's surname in her name to gain quicker & wider recognition among Chinese people like Aileen Gu. With the strong anti-Chinese sentiment in the west now, even her mother's name was deliberately excluded in her Wiki entry.

For anybody to get an "F" is a strong indication of not putting effort into the subject. But it is also unfair to compare yourself to Emma in Chinese. I won't be surprised if Emma learned Chinese and English at the same time when she was a baby. Emma didn't go to school to learn to speak Chinese.
@deacudaniel16352 жыл бұрын
I've learned Mandarin for more than 7 years, but I don't have any Chinese ancestry so I can't say I speak Mandarin better than her.Still, I can spot some few pronunciation mistakes because I've heard a lot o Chinese so I know how it should sound like correctly, but I guess for a native Chinese this should still be 100% understandable.After all, she is worthy of praise because many children of Chinese immigrants can't speak their own language and easily abandon their culture.

@swimdeep1 Hi, The acquisition of linguistic skills is quite easy. All languages belong to Family trees e. g. English originated from Anglo-Saxon but by 100 A. D. it began to absorb Latin, Scandinavian, Greek, French and it borrows many words from many other languages and cultures. All languages belong to a family tree e. g. Romance languages - Latin, French, Italian, Spanish... they share certain similarities ies in inflections, grammar, vocabulary and semantics... there're overlaps that facilitate learning the new language once you're aware... however, some languages like Mandarin though it's put under the Sino-Mongolian cluster, have nothing much in common... however, your learning skills are facilitated as you become more aware of the similarities or differences... so learning more languages is an additive process for your brain... Good luck! You can self - learn from KZbin Language Learning videos. The best way to acquire a mother language is to speak it use it and read it.
