When Emma was diagnosed with Fanconi anemia a few months after birth, her family was pleased to learn that one of the world’s leading team of experts in the disease was just down the road at Dana-Farber/ Boston Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center. Because Fanconi anemia affects blood cells, every minor bump, bruise, or cold can send Emma to the hospital. Now at 5, Emma’s next milestone in her care will eventually be a stem cell transplant, which comes with its own long-term health risks. But no matter what the future holds, Emma will have her family and care team by her side.
