I live in rural US where people don’t understand/appreciate what cashmere is and they’ve never seen anyone but Sherlock wearing a trench coat on TV -but do I still go about dressing like London girl Emma Hill in head to toe secondhandbutgrand from Vestiaire? These are great guidelines. I think rules, lists, guidelines, etc. appeal to people because they’re simple, but get us thinking about things a little differently. I choose a color, or a patterned item (if only a checked wool scarf), or occasionally an interesting belt or item of jewelry, etc., as my inspiration item for the outfit, then build the rest outfit with quiet, solid-color basics from my color palette. This works pretty well for me, and ensures that there is only one main focal point or statement feature in my look. It’s like decorating a room, its much easier to choose the rug pattern or artwork first, any complimentary paint color (or t-shirt) is a lot easier to add then working from the more quiet elements to the more interesting ones.

Having less clothes i find it's easier to put things together (had a major clear out during lock down) . Like you Emma i love love plain basics but then a bit of stripe gets in there to break it up . My style has been pretty much the same for a few years , although now i cannot wear heels anymore i am more into comfort footwear and trying to find a smart boot but is also comfortable is my must this autumn x

I think of Emma’s style as casual luxury. She makes a basic t look classy and comfortable. Brought a new love for what I already have in my closet. Like my converse, basic but the style is luxurious in its simplicity. The style is practical, most of her purchases will still be cool in 20 years.

Thank you Emma for another entertaining video. What struck me about the whole “Don’t wear the same outfit twice” mindset is this. If I have a plethora of grey jumpers ( using your word of the moment!)and jeans and black trousers and camel outerwear... even though i am wearing a DIFFERENT grey jumper...say a charcoal turtleneck rather than the dark grey roll neck and my jeans are different and heck, I’m wearing loafers instead of boots... most people will think I look the same! So my philosophy is buy less, buy better and smarter and wear it more!

I recently discovered Heavy duty No shoulder bump flocked hangers. I've been adding them to my Amazon order every month (50 at a time). Yesterday, I counted my Sweaters & Cardigans to see how many I needed...150! How in the hell did I accumulate 150 Sweaters? Will I ever wear all 150? Do I want to get rid of any... No! LOL I'm 53 & My Sweater Collection is a time Capsule of my life! I'm just hoping I never have to move again - Or... Down Size... Horror!😜! LOL I also use the same "tactics" for putting my outfits together! 😘

I completely agree with all of your points. I used to buy clothing based on how pretty it look on the hanger at store paid no attention to the color, but now that I have a color palette that I stick to, it has made life so much easier! Even when looking for what I need, I know exactly what colors so it makes it so much time efficient to narrow everything down to my color palette, and forget about getting dress in the morning! So so much easier because everything goes well with everything color wise! Great video! 💕

Very useful as always. I can so relate to your approach toward style. The one thing I will add is that I don’t mind having four colors in an outfit, if they are neutral, i.e., black, beige, white and gray or navy, brown, beige, white. I think this works especially well in the fall when you have more layers to work with.

Excellent tips. I totally agree about comfort and evolving style as we age. I'm in my mid 40s and my style certainly has changed and comfort is my number one priority. I 😍 your fashion sense, but unfortunately for my 5'3 hour glass frame the oversized trend makes me look very dumpy. So I can only wear slightly relaxed styles. I found this really helpful, I’ve often wondered if you had a system so to speak when putting your outfits together, I know you’ve touched on inspiration and Pinterest before, and the rule of 3 but the other points in this video were really useful. I feel you’ve had a big influence on how I curate my wardrobe and use and invest in pieces that I know will fit in with my style, which as you point out is ever evolving. Previously I had lots of items that I never wore as they didn’t really work with the rest of my clothes and so I would really struggle putting things together when getting dressed. So thank you very much for that. ☺️ Side note your hair looks fabulous here! 💁🏼♀️

From my late 20;s onwards, I've approached my wardrobe in much the same way which is why I really relate to your vlogs and enjoy them so much. Most of my wardrove consists of navy and black in pants, cardigans and blazers and if I want to incorporate colour I might wear a bright blue t-shirts with a blazer or cardigan to give my face some colour. As a Canadian I am so looking forward to visiting London again and I admit some of my time will be spent in the stores you've mentioned on your vlogs.
